Why should there be separate showers for gay men and straight men?
For the same reason that men and women shower separately.

No, not because they are different sexes, the correct answer would be because there is a sexual attraction between each of the groups to the other.

Sexual attraction is distracting and damages the efficiency of the soldiers in doing their roles, and that is why females and males do not use the same showers (when possible), and the same is correct about any other two groups where at least one group is attracted to the other.

But gay men and straight men are already showering together. Why should that change if they end DADT?

According to which studies again? Is there evidence that the efficiency of the soldiers is currently being damaged?

I finding it somewhat disturbing to think that we are entrusting the security of our nation to people we don't think capable of taking a shower with other people in a mature fashion.

Really? Are they so distracted they can't perform their jobs? Are they so distracted they can't shower?

How exactly are they distracted?
Please cease this purposeless argument, gays will be distracted because they will be sexually attracted to the other males and would not be able to work in a clear mind.

The same goes for straight women who will be taking showers with men, or for straight males who will be taking showers with females, etc etc.

If that is not obvious to you then certainly it is a problem that you must deal with.
And why would they be more distracted if everyone knew they were gay? Would that somehow make them even gayer?
Who said that they'd be more distracted?
It would just be formally dealt with, since the existence of homosexuality in the military would be recognized.

What reason is that?
You are breaking Rule #4. Why don't you admit you have no answer, it's quite obvious why certain categories of individuals shouldn't be house together.

THANK YOU!

It's amazing isn't it? We're gonna let gay men drive Multi-Million dollar tanks, fly jets, and maintain nuclear weapons. But we're scared of letting them shower with straight guys...

Yeah, that makes sense.

The military didn't need studies to know that, and neither did I.
It's called common sense and I love using it all day long.

I find it natural.

If it's quite obvious then tell me? And I admit I don't have an answer, that's why I keep asking you. You keep hinting at something as if it's a secret.

So give me the answer already.

Why can't gay men and straight men shower together? They're already doing it.

In that case men and women should be housed together, roomed together and shower together. They're all professionals.

You keep bringing that up and you keep ducking the question. This isn't about men and women, this is about gay men and straight men.

Because presumably straight men don't know who is gay.

Please explain how exactly is the fact that it has already happened make it correct.

Some people are afraid the ghey is contagious.

Only those who are unsure of their own sexuality. I think it's absurd that one of the arguments I hear most often about gays in the military is that the current military macho-man ideal might be challenged and make these emotionally-unstable muscle-bound morons uncomfortable.

GOOD! They should be made uncomfortable! Maybe it would make them grow the hell up and develop a little maturity. The military tends to like these mindless brutes who embrace their own masculinity on the outside, but inside are little boys following orders. Anyone who thinks they're going to be turned gay because some gay guys are hanging around really has bigger problems than they think.

You keep bringing that up and you keep ducking the question. This isn't about men and women, this is about gay men and straight men.
You ducked the question and are playing semantics games. You don't know what men and women don't live and shower together??? You don't know something is needs no study because it is plainly obvious to every person except maybe you?

Please explain how exactly is the fact that it has already happened make it correct.

Gay men are in the military. Straight men are in the military.

On many occasions in the military, such as in Navy boot camp, the showers are just one big room with large shower heads in the middle of the room. You walk in, you hang your towel, you shower. Everybody else does the same. Gay men have done it, straight men have done. They've all done it together.

See. It's easy. And nobody died and the world didn't end. Everyone just goes on about their business and does their job.

Okay, but what about the housing once openness is okay? Before it didn't matter because supposedly you didn't know who was gay. But now that you know, straight men may object to being in the same living quarters. So shouldn't separate quarters be arranged for openly gay soldiers?

Why? I was listening to a radio interview a couple of days ago where they had a former military man on and he says back in the 70s and 80s, his platoon knew that there were gay men serving, they just didn't care. Nobody ever made a move on anyone else, it was understood that it was forbidden and life went on.

Are military men so shallow that they can't handle being around gay men? After all, are they so shallow that they can't handle being around women without raping them? And I thought only the Muslims and Jews were so insane that "we have to cover the women up or they might make us rape them".

Fine, let them serve, let them be soldiers. In the work environment it is different than in a housing environment, plainly obvious by the fact that women don't room with men. Geee, what could be the reason.....gee I don't know let's do a $million study.

They didn't make a move why? Cause they'd have been thrown out maybe? In spite of sexual harrassment laws, men and women still aren't house together.

In your post I have only spotted further claims that it has happened, and yet no reasoning as to what makes it correct. (that the world didn't end does not, apparently, make an event positive)

So the eff what? Isn't a soldier's job to do as he's told and shut the hell up about his whiny "personal issues?"

For the same reason that men and women shower separately.

That's a cultural thing, it's certainly not necessary. I'm sure there are plenty of military men and women who would have no problem whatsoever showering together and never get sexually attached.

Fine by me. Would cut costs making two entirely separate barracks as well.

But gay men and straight men are already showering together. Why should that change if they end DADT?

Because this might happen!!

It is the military's policy to prevent sexual distraction when it can.

Housing gay men and straight men together is fine and dandy, and there is absolutely no wrong in it.
Sharing the showers is not.
