Should the 2001/2003 GWB cuts be extended?

Should the 2001/2003 GWB tax cuts be extended for people that make under $250k?

No, not with the budget deficit as high as it currently is.

That spending should not have happened in the first place. Unfortunately the American public was unable to overcome it's pubic education and voted in a socialist.

The tax cuts should be made permanent while at the same time excessive spending, such as Obama'Care, complexity abandoned and forever forgotten about.

Also...it is small businesses that are the economic backbone of this country that generally are investing in our economy. These are not the people making 200,000 a year.

There are plenty of small businesses that make way more than 250,000 a year.

Increase those taxes and you lose capital for investment and expansion of the private sector. Way to go, genius!

The private sector is contracting due to declining demand. They are laying off, closing plants, outsourcing and cutting costs. The problem is not with production capacity for which we have plenty, it is with demand. Companies do not need more capital for expansion.

So that makes it right for the govt to confiscate it?

No, but cutting taxes for the middle class would stimulate demand and perhaps lead to companies calling back employees.
Companies do not need to expand at this time. That argument is ridiculous.
I heard Palin make it a few days ago. She said tax cuts for big business would allow them to hire and expand. She didn't realize they were cutting back and laying off due to declining demand. They have plenty of capacity.

The tax cuts should remain in effect for everyone...........even for the people who make over $250K that do the hiring in this country.......

Lots of people that make over 250k don't do any hiring. They just collect their bonuses that us taxpayers made possible.

Lots of people who make less do hiring too...

Lot of small businesses do make over 250K and they hire people to work for them.............Why do you lefties hate people that have worked hard to be where they are.......Right now the wealthy pay about 80 percent of the taxes in this country.......

I have owned a small business and hired people to work for me. Why do fools like you make such idiotic comments? Just because you are collecting Social security, a government pension and on medicare, don't take it out the people that want their own taxes reduced.
If rich folks pay less taxes that means poorer folks have to pay more. Do you understand that? I just want my taxes cut and if that means rich people paying more, then so be it. If you want to pay more taxes so wealthy people don't have to, feel free to send the government extra money.
The Wall St. bailouts kind of proves how Government looks out for the wealthy. The $180 billion bailout of AIG and bank bailouts allowed the rich to keep getting bonuses thanks to the taxpayer.

So do you think the budget should be balanced? If so, which of your entitlements would you like to cut?

According to the CBO tax cuts increase revenue more then raising taxes..........

I don't know if you consider welfare, food stamps and unemployment entitlements but that would be a good place to look at.....

One thing for sure no more bailing out the car or banking industry.......

No they don't. The CBO has never said that. Here's what the CBO said in 2005 about the Bush tax cuts.
CBO Data Show Tax Cuts Have Played Much Larger Role than Domestic Spending Increases in Fueling the Deficit — Center on Budget and Policy Priorities

First of all, even if you completely eliminated all of those things, the impact on the federal deficit would be very small. We simply don't spend very much money on them relative to the overall federal budget.

Second of all, are you sure you really WANT to eliminate those things? If someone gets laid off in the middle of the worst recession in decades, they should just starve to death?

Those were one-time responses to an economic crisis, not long-term policy initiatives. If we're going to get the deficit under control, the only way to do so is to look at ways to rein in spending on the biggest-ticket items. That means those entitlement programs you're so fond of. Social security is relatively manageable, but Medicare/Medicaid are a looming budgetary nightmare if nothing is done.

And the rest of us didn't pay into those entitlements? What a hypocrite.
It always amazes me how some complain about entitlements yet when it comes time for them to collect they feel like they are entitled.:rofl:rofl

Eat my heart out? I am semi retired, have saved up enough to live comfortably without SS which I do not plan on signing up for until I actually need it. Unlike you I did not leech off the government my entire life. Being a supply clerk in the Navy is not all that dangerous or heroic. I worked in the private sector for everything I have.

And if the car companies come out stronger and contribute to the prosperity of the nation would it have been a bad decision to help them out during the recession? Time will tell if the car bailouts were the right decision or not.l

This is not a socialist country as much as you and your leaser want it to be.......The auto industry and the banks are private enterprizes...they should sink or swim.......What are you going to do next bail out McDonalds and Burger King if they go bad?

I did not support any of the bailouts or the stimulus package. However it is too soon to say if they were the correct decisions at the time. If everything works out great and our country recovers and enters a new era of prosperity, then they were right.
They had tough choices to make and they made them. Right or wrong. Had they done nothing and we had a total economic collapse would you still be whining? I would say yes.

So you never defended you country and begrudge the guys who worked that ass off and did.........Shame on you for begrudging the small compebsation they receive every month.....Just remember they are the ones that fought and died to give you the right to run your mouth like this......

I to planned my retirement thinking I would never receive SS...I could live without it and would be willing to give it up if the government did away with the program.........I did not even apply for it until I was 70.......

No matter what you say in the future I will never forget what you said about our brave service people that protect your ass leech off the government when they receive a pension............that is about as low as you can get........

I don't hear you complain about lazy scum bags using the government by drawing welfare and food stamps for years.......I have a friend who delivers mail and he says he has delivered a welfare check to the dame house for 25 years and the only thing that has changed is the name on the envelope...........

You did not support the bail outs but you like it now.........Seems to me you are trying to have it both ways.............

I say let the companies sink or swim.......that is what capitalism is all about......I am consisent.......you are not.............

If that is true....why are you one of the biggest supporters of Corporate Welfare out there?

I did not support it or do I like it. I do not know if it was the right thing to do or not. Neither do you. Time will tell.

I don't think the GWB tax cuts should be extended. However, I do think that Congress should pass a new tax cut law. Increase taxes on some of our wealthiest 1% and cut taxes on our middle class. That will help spur government revenue and our economy.

The top 1% already pay far too much

hiking taxes on them is actually going to hurt the lower classes. rich people are generally rather resourceful and there are plenty of countries who like their investments. One of my best friends is the son of a man who just sold a company that had been in his family for 120 years for about 26 million. The guy promptly moved to the Turks and Cacos Islands. The death confiscation tax and the income taxes the libs love aren't going to get much of that wealth
