Nah, I made it about the media and peoples simple minds. Who the **** gives a **** about the Ipad when there are plenty of tablet PCs?

Who the **** cares,there are plenty of tablet pcs out there, the shame is the hysteria. It proves the average intelligence of todays society in a negative way.

besides how ****ing unpractical is a tablet pc anyways. You have to constantly hold the thing, and have no keyboard.. Better just go with a netbook or a nice notebook/laptop.

Nokia n900 is a good alternative. Mobile computer deluxe.

The N900 is the best phone on the market. Only a retard that falls for marketing aimed at the average retard would go for the Iphone for example. Which is a much poorer phone.

The N900 can do what a iphone can, it can do what an ipad can, and it can do what a laptop can.. Why not support this phone, that is based on a Linux OS, not symbian. Maemo if you didnt know...

Aside from that, symbian is pretty good also.

That entire like of Nokia phones and Internet devices has been excellent for a long time, going back to the N800 and N810. They can be used as a straight replacement for Palm PDAs as well, which is a huge plus for those of us who actually still use them and cannot get out data transferred to any supposed "smart phone".

My bad, I forgot they switched from Symbian to Maemo relatively recently.

No, in all seriousness, the N900's not a bad phone at all, or more not a bad smart phone. Nor is Maemo or Symbian. From all I've seen its more of a pocket computer, a linuxy OQO with a phone added in. The N97 mini would be more of what I'd compare to the modern smart phone. It just has about as much affect on the U.S. Phone Market as Linux has in the U.S. Desktop market.

That said, iPhone is far from the most advanced OS that actually is a blip on the U.S. map. WinMo 6.5, Android, and WebOS all trounce it in regards to the capabilities in the hands of the users with regards to the OS.

The iPhoneOS is not about power though, and about usability. Which, by essentially stealing the old Palm OS and prettifying it while making it touch friendly, they've managed to do better than any others (Though personally I think even in ease of use WebOS is superior).

Though right now if I was going for a laptop replacement in a phone it'd have to be the HTC HD2, but then again it'd depend on why I was needing a legitimate mini-computer in my pocket.

Ultimately though, who needs a laptop replacement in a cell phone. I want my cell phone to do me well with my portable needs. I'll take a little netbook if I need a laptop for traveling.

The "Best" Smart Phone ultimately is the one that does what YOU want the best. The N900 may be the most versatile, it may have the best specs in your opinion, but it being the "best" is subjective based on a number of things from usability (both in the phone and in your area), what you plan to do wit hit, etc. The "My phone can do so much more than yours" was the trap PocketPC and later Windows Mobile fell into when battling against the old Palm OS and the early days of the smart phone market. Just cause you can do more, and have more, doesn't necessarily makes you "better"...just makes you more powerful.

I have an Iphone, so I'm not sure what I would need an Ipad for. My Iphone is ****ing awesome, and I love it, and I don't know how I lived without it for so long. But I can't see any reason to have an Iphone AND an Ipad.

Well, to be honest... I still have the Nokia 8310, which fills all my needs for a mobile device.. (that being, it is incredibly small, it can call and send and receive sms, it even had radio(which the iphone do not).) and to mention that the 8310 is 10 years old.. It would not hurt my pocketbook if it was broken, it would just render me without a great phone in a market with less and less phones and more and more computers with phone ability.

I wish Nokia would make a new 8310 and remove the bugs and add a bit nicer of a screen. That would be the phone I would go with.

But then again, I am considering the N900 as my replacement for the 8310.
 
So actually just used it at a best buy. I must say, while its far from ideal its definitely in a product I could see catching on. Very very nice size. Feels even snappier than the iPhone. Apple continues to provide possibly the most responsive touch screens I've ever worked on. The Ebook interface is nice and the keyboard isn't bad for a touch environment.

In no way could this thing be a laptop replacement, but I could very easily see this being a portal media device for casual people who simply want something to pick up around the house or if they go on occasional trips.
