Where exactly is the "who cares" option...

The Ipad clearly shows there is something wrong with the world, just like Obama does, where people worship things that media make them.

Thats what I think of the freakking ishaite.

Apple is overrated.

I mean yeah, I have an iPod, but I don't worship it and pledge loyalty to Steve Jobs.

Plus this got me thinking it would be hard for people with a strong Northeastern accent to distinguish between iPod and iPad.

Making mountains out of molehills. This thread has nothing to do with Obama and your attempt to make the ipad political is laughable.

I pointed that out to an Apple fanboy and he told me that creating mindless fanboys who would buy anything Apple put out no matter what was a perfectly legitimate and valuable business strategy and people should be proud to have that degree of fanatical brand loyalty.

The fact is, the iPad is a piece of techno trash. It's not worth the price, it's severely crippled and you have a bunch of brainwashed fanboys who will buy it for no other reason than it has an Apple logo on the side.

Wow, there sure is a lot of negative energy and very harsh words from a bunch of people who claim to not care about Apple or its products.

 I have an Iphone. Its the worst phone I ever owned, except all the others.

Where do you put it when you want to stop using it for a while? Does it come with a holster? a backpack? a trunk? suitcase?

Get 'em for all your kids so that they can leave them behind.

In typical Apple fashion they controll the access by leaving out SD card slots and USB ports for downloading. Of course they have a number of models with more capability for more $$$. Apple has always been closed off, unlike Microsoft/IBM. It also seems to be promoted as a toy, and not for serious business use. There are lots of professions that could utilize a compact yet capable tablet type of device, but more seem to have shortcomings that can't be tolerated in more business environments.

Like everything, there are pros and cons to a given situation. The fact that Apple makes its hardware proprietary, without access with SD slots or USB, has pluses to it as well. It is lighter, uses more controlled power saving battery life, less complicated an OS that doesn't have to react with drivers to new devices. I am just guessing, but I think those are valid pros.

In the broader sense, because their devices are proprietary, they can build an integrated hardware and software platform that performs its job very well. This is what attracts people to apple. Their stuff just works and works very well.

Never used an iPhone and never will. It is too bulky. I don't even have a small cellphone anymore. Send me email if you need to contact me.

I have a Nano and it lasts 8+ hours playing music.

The iPad's battery reportedly lasts for 10 in-use hours, and a full month of hibernating. Seems pretty respectable in that regard.

The more I thought about it the more respect I have for the device, but the respect I have for it is nill.

I considered a great use of it would be a coffee table computer-one at which to be a more functional Harmony remote for my home theater system, the quick-acessing information for IMDB, Wikipedia, and so forth. Maybe some fun little applications here or there...

Out in public....I don't know. For myself, I could only think of the times where I felt like this thing would be cool for the living room, and that's about it.

Its kinda amusing people suggesting "it has no camera" could you really envisage holding up a device the size of an ipad and taking pictures?

I was under the impression Apple were bringing out a device to corner the ebook market and there was little mention, from what i can gather, it would come with a multitude of functions.

I feel its definitely over priced [although i,m not sure by how much, the UK are still in the dark]

Basically its an ebook reader, with Internet access [if desired] which will enable the user to collect his daily paper, amongst other things. Would i want it to do anything else???

People bring up a camera, in part, for a front facing one as many saw this as a potential great niche device for video chatting type purposes. Also because in part just about every netbook, something that Jobs directly compared it to, has one installed already as well.

Fair point.

Too big for a phone, too small to be useful for anything else, and a phone-style OS. No point. Besides, tablets have been out for several years and few are interested.

Classic Apple style over function. Apple is much more of a lifestyle seller than an actual maker of useful things.

Why would I want that POS when I have a laptop that can do all that plus? It is not even that much bigger? OK it's allot bigger, lol.

Aside from night-time reading (and I would prefer a book light attachment with e-ink screen technology), and what looks to be a much better search or organization scheme, I hold very little faith in the iPad for a book reader.
