This morning on my school announcements they said they were sponsoring a collection for Haiti earthquake victims. But should it be our problem? Schools are already broke as it is in my area and now they are donating money to Haiti victims, as well as asking students to donate things. I don't think it is Americas responsibility to take care of the world when we can't even take care of ourselves.

Your school is donating money and items, or they are just facilitating the collection of donations made by the students and faculty? Big difference.

Both. Its outrageous.

I find it hard to believe a public school (assumption on my part) would be making a donation from its own funds for Haiti, but maybe they are. If it bothers you so much, have you filed a complaint with the school board?

And what's outrageous about donating money to help the Haitians? You ever been in a natural disaster of that magnitude before?

Don't you want to live in a "socialist country"? You don't even really know what all that means, do you?

If they are using tax payer money to donate then no, if they want to ask for donations then sure it should be allowed assuming that is it not a political or religious cause.(ie a church or group raising funds to recruit and or fund church or political group activities.) then it should be legal(, a poltiical group or religious group raising money for the homeless, children is this or some other country, fighting cancer and etc are okay.).

Public Schools have no place in the Political arena. And children should not be put in a situation to decide foreign Policy. Talk to their Parents, if you must, but leave children out of the equation.

It is the right thing to do, but the wrong place.
Our schools must teach English and other subjects, nothing else.
Nothing must interfere with this.
And money belongs not in our schools.

Yeah, that's not the same as being in New Orleans during Katrina, now is it?

If you don't want to donate, then don't. If your school is in fact donating from their funds (which I have a hard time believing) then complain to the school board.
