Pork - can America live without?

Are Pork Barrel Project Inevitable?

Here is the thing: Considering that we have 50 states, all represented individually by Congress, how would we be able to avoid pork barrel projects?

A congressperson is elected for their state, by their state; the state/locals expect earmarks back.

Is it possible to rid the pork?

I dunno.

But I voted that it is possible, becuse I want it to be possible.

With the current system in use in D.C., I think not.

And said system protects itself, so even less likely.

Yes.
But you need a responsible press and education system.

Unfortunately we lack those.

The House is elected for the People of their district, by the people of their district. They are in charge of representing the People in the legislature. The Senate is supposed to be chosen by the State for the State. They are in charge of representing the States in the legislature.

I say yes. I have some ideas how to get rid of it or make it extremely difficult to slip in pork.

1. Require those write the bills to read them outloud in front of a tv camera and explain in layman's terms what the bill means and why we need each and every single part.

2. Require those write the amendments to bills to read them outloud in front of a tv camera and explain in layman's terms what the amendment means and why we need that amendment.

3.If a bill or an amendment to a bill is altered/removed in any way then require the responsible individuals to read it outloud in front of a tv and explain what that removal/alteration means and why we need that alteration or removal.

4.One subject at a time.

Bro, that would take so freakin long...Well now that I'm thinking about it - that's a good thing! Government size wouldn't spin outa control like it does now.

Imagine how long it would take the current health care bill would take to pass...

I think if those ideas of making them read it out loud became law, then most likely they would stop writing bills the size of dictionaries and encyclopedias.
 
Under the current system there really is no way to get rid of porkbarrel projects, politicians are not held accountable for anything they do except in extreme circumstances and almost all bills passed through Congress have earmarks tacked on, just because there's nobody who can stop them from doing it.

We ought to eliminate pork, we just put a bunch of shysters in power who really couldn't care less what the American people want.
