WASHINGTON — In a surprise setback for Democratic leaders, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, said on Sunday that he would vote against the health care legislation in its current form.

Based on that article and your own feelings do you think that the HC bill will be passed before the month up?

No, I think they're going to be debating and tweaking this for much longer than that.

I've always had a certain degree of respect for Lieberman.

I voted no, but I did not think a bill would be passed this month anyway. I am willing to bet a bill does get passed within a couple months, probably at this point without a public option.

What's hilarious is how angry certain people now are at him... when those same certain people criticized the Republican Party for not having enough moderates.

You know I hear that these people, these representatives, in Washington are representing their constituents, but when I look at Washington, all I see is some politicians playing a big game. It's all just a game to some of these people. Granted, some of them are genuine in their work, but mostly I see...the game.

Democrats aren't angry at Lieberman for being a moderate. Democrats are angry at Lieberman for voting against a piece of health care reform that he himself lobbied for years ago.

...I lost the game.

Seriously though, politics is a game, always has been, always will be. There's nothing you can really do about it, it's just a fact of life.

Absolutely! Twice in fact he spoke in favor of the medicare option! Once when running with Al Gore and again in 2006.

He's the biggest phony in D.C. He has a very inflated view of his importance and does things like this to make himself feel important.

When he couldn't get elected by his own party he switched parties. Now that's the epitome of getting elected at all costs. Can anyone trust a politician that will do anything to get reelected. I don't think so! :x

So did I. I kinda feel for the guy. He is between the proverbial rock and a hard place. There is so much good work he can get done but he knows if he crosses his supporters in his state's insurance industry, he's toast.

Going against over 60% of his voting public in favor of his cash cow's, not representing the wishes of those who elected him, he's toast.

What's a poor demo...er...repub....indepen...uh.... to do?

Either way, he's toast.

I thought Lieberman caved when his wife's job/salary was threatened? Baseless?

The demos have been gracious in allowing him to caucus with them. I suspect he will pay dearly for being such an ungrateful arse.

Initially, he said he would, but then he came back and said he would vote against it.

Yeah, I feel awfully sorry for a guy who's probably going to get millions in campaign funding from health insurance companies when he has to campaign for his next election for obstructing a bill for containing a measure that he himself once lobbied for. That's the height of integrity right there.

so a massive complicated bill that has A Measure he previously supported, means he has to support this abomination of a bill?

Strucky,

I know I'm missing something here as I believe you may have said this on WS too. Are you saying he's a democrat at heart or what? I can't see that at this point and I wasn't aware the Independent party was the same thing as the democrats.

There's no way he could've switched parties if he never joined another party after the Democrats dropped him.

:confused::confused::confused:

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't he run as an Independent and won in Connecticut?
Therefore he is an Independent and not a democrat.

Yeah but I think he was on board with the Dems at one point, and now is "jumping ship" so to speak.

He still caucuses with the dems. And the democrats in his state threw him out.
