(I couldn't find a similar poll, but if there is one, I denounce and reject myself)

ACLU: Obama’s reversal on Patriot Act reform ‘a major travesty’ | Raw Story

The extensions in question "allow the government to acquire private information about civilians through warrantless wiretapping of phone calls and emails, as well as seizure of records from credit reporting companies, banks, internet service providers and libraries. Another component includes the loosening of conditions under which an individual can be accused of providing "material support" to terrorists."

Yay, more change we can believe in. I might just vote Independent in 2012 if this continues.

I did not want to say, ‘I told you so’ but…

Like has become the norm in America since 911, you give away your rights and slowly become a closed society, all in the name of terrorism and the fight against them.

Its said to say it, but the terrorists have actually won already.

Is anyone really shocked that a politician chose to retain as much power as possible?

The first rule of power is to perpetuate itself. Rarely ever does it relinquish any power it has taken.

James Madison......."If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."

These extensions are actually extensions to extensions which were put in place during the Bush administration, which were extensions to the original Patriot Act under Bush, which was really an extension to Bill Clinton's Antiterrorism Act. So all of the crap really originated with Clinton. Before you blame anybody, whether it is Obama or Bush, you should lay the blame on who started this whole big antiamerican ball rolling - Bill Clinton. Everybody who came after him only jumped on his bandwagon. How about those of you who still wax fond for Bill Clinton? You going to lay some responsibility on Clinton, or are you going to go hyperpartisan and make it out to be all Bush's fault again?

What, you expected the ACLU to be honest/accurate?

I don't know for sure how many terrorist acts the PA prevented but I expect it has been at least a dozen..

I would put the number at at least a dozen less than your estimate.

The Raw Story Feingold: ‘Sneak-and-peek’ searches being used for regular crimes
The Justice Department made 763 requests for "sneak-and-peek" warrants in 2008, but only three of those had to with terrorism investigations, Sen. Russ Feingold told a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday.

"Sneak-and-peek" warrants allow law enforcement officials to break into homes and businesses and search the premises without the investigated party knowing. The authority for them was passed as part of the USA Patriot Act in late 2001, ostensibly as a counter-terrorism measure

Nobody knows the number because the Politicians cannot release the numbers for brownie points, as we'd find them lying out of their ass.

I can't think of a better expression than the following when thinking of government:

You give it an inch and it takes a mile.

This is why a 'little bit' of loss of freedoms and rights in exchange for a 'little bit' of security rapidly snowballs into all out oppression and expansion of government. Again, karma. People, out of irrational fear, handed up their rights on the holy altar of fighting terrorism.

Hook, line, sinker. How do you plan on getting those rights back now? That's what I want to know. You have a decade's civil rights battle ahead of you if not more, and that's assuming the 'security' measures don't increase all the while, and you know they will.

What is dishonest and inaccurate in pointing out that Obama keeps some of these extensions in place, and criticising him for this?
Do think before you post.

Obama has not turned out to be the "radical" some were hoping for and others feared him to be, which was already apparent for anyone looking beyond the partisan pre-election pro and con.

Of course, his supporters would never see him for the radical he is, but he routinely disregards the Constitution whenever he appoints more radicals as his czars to do his radical bidding. He goes to foreign countries to bad mouth his country and for that receives a Nobel Peace Prize. Then again some recent recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize call that supposed "coveted" award into question.

They have been highlighted in the news...You need to keep up...........

see, here's the problem, the entire world dosent recieve american news services, which may come as a surprise to you, and i detest mainstream news services in any case, oh and incase you didnt figure it out, i dont live in america

obama getting the nobel is crap, he only got it for not being george bush, when the nominations went in he had only been in office two weeks, i doubt he could've made any sort of impact on world peace in that time

so i reiterate, pplease provide some examples

Lately, I have checked out the British news sites for a different perspective. You get news about this country you don't get here, even on Fox.

What would be the point though? No one wants to fight anymore, and the ones who do normally work for the government and they'll obey whatever the government tells them to do even if that means arresting/killing a freedom fighter. No one wants to freedom they want false security and the like.

Are you advocating anarchy then?

And all of you that thought The Obama was really going to change things - how silly do you feel now?

Now then.
Extend the Patriot Act? To make it harder for terrorists to blow up our cities and easier for us to hunt them down and kill them?

:applaud

Oh, I did not know it is unconstitutional to appoint "radicals". lol
And I haven't noticed any "bad-mouthing" of the US.

Never figured you as a Clinton supporter.
