Silly. Maximums of silliness. How not knowing the words, less cultural background one can judge from a poor perfomance?
Hmmmm.... I think it sounded like a bunch of incongruent notes of grandiosity just flying off into the air. No rhyme or reason. No simple, identifiable melody.

But it was well played by the band.

Let me try to bring it to you slowly, very slowly.
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dF1tWhFESU&feature=related"]YouTube- Russia national anthem[/ame]

all way down to your level, translating into Amercan

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHtZ0nzzPQM"]YouTube- Russian Anthem-Rock Version[/ame]

you play guitar, don’t you, you can make out tabs
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoGcRkno0Bg&feature=related"]YouTube- Гимн Роии (СССР), на двух гитарах[/ame]

now less the band:

Now you see what sounds as a bunch of incongruent notes may be very congruent and coherent for another ear, another culture.

Though I wouldn’t know how to translate this for you:

I present you with this only because I can't find the backflipping helicopter one.

I'm not very impressed with the outdated Soviet era equipment.

1. It was a joke in reply to a joke.

2. The US has no chance, equipment does not fight. Russia is on its own territory… over a 1000 years.

3. It is generally a discussion about singing, music, cultural differences, souls, patriotism, etc. I will meet you in discussion about military to beat you.

4. You think you are an all equipped big guy.

And because - the worst of all - they shoot back.

You have repeated the typical excuse of American generals, historians and teachers of cretinism. Do they teach anything else in American military academies, schools, colleges besides cretinism? Does liberal media the only existing in the US have any other goal except for seeding cretinism?

Let me ask you and all the listed above – and what, peoples of RF are fighting in a different dimension?

It is all in and the tread is about the music, the soul.
I bet you have never heard Shostakovich Symphony No. 7 "Leningrad"

How many Americans have heard that explanation about the taught terrain on Afghanistan border? Have you seen somebody who has protested voiced against cretinism imposed on them?

What terrain? http://www.russianpaintings.net/art...er_suvorov_crossing_the_alps_in_1799_1899.jpg

In America they teach that Napoleon beaten by Russians like a goat is the greatest general. Etc. And the typical explanation of American generals is – they have general mud and general frost and jungles and mountains and rivers and deserts on their side and they also shoot back, so we have to withdraw.

I've always loved the Soviet anthem. Have you heard the anthem of the Netherlands? It's very nice and inspirational :)

Probably top 3 anthem in the world, if not number one.

But it isnt the best nationalistic song they got:

I like the Music, it is stirring, I have no idea what words they give to it.
Probably would not sound as well in the English version.

On a political note Russia is always ruled by the security services and probably always will be, true they are a bunch of thieves and murderers so no change there.

O Russia, for ever you’re strong sacred country !
O Russia, for ever the land that we love!
The fame that is great and the will that is mighty –
So be they thy treasure in ages to come.
Praised be the Fatherland, cherishing home of ours –
Cent’ries-old union of peoples in free,
Popular wisdom given us by ancestors.
Praised be our country! And we’re proud of thee!

From seas in the South and up to polar border
Our woods and our meadows have stretched far away.
Alone in the whole world, you stand one and only!
By God saved as ever our dear native land.
Praised be the Fatherland, cherishing home of ours –
Cent’ries-old union of peoples in free,
Popular wisdom given us by ancestors.
Praised be our country! And we’re proud of thee!

For generous dreaming, for life and for longing
The years approaching give us ample scope.
With faith in our Homeland we are getting stronger.
It was so, it is so and it will be so!
Praised be the Fatherland, cherishing home of ours –
Cent’ries-old union of peoples in free,
Popular wisdom given us by ancestors.
Praised be our country! And we’re proud of thee!

Arise, beloved country!
Arise, for mortal fight
With Fascist hordes despicable,
The forces of the night.

Refrain:
Let waves of righteous fury
Swell up as ne'er before
And spur us to the vict'ry of
Our sacred people's war. (x 2)

Give chase to those who'd conquer us
Oppressive tyrants all,
Who'd crush great flame ideas,
Who'd cast us into thrall.

Refrain

Their black wings we will never let
Fly o'er our motherland,
Nor ever shall her precious fields
Fall to a hostile band.

Refrain

These dirty rotten Fascist pigs
We'll shoot between the eyes.
The garbage of humanity
Is headed for demise.

Or this :
Den' Pobedy" (Russian: День Победы, English: Victory Day) ranks among the most popular in the large corpus of Russian songs dedicated to World War II. "the song seemed to have turned back the time. Although written three decades after the war, it now seems that it was this song that helped us to gain the victory".
the jury, composed primarily of elderly songwriters whose tastes had been formed during Stalin's era, was exceedingly displeased with the result. The lyrics appeared to them lightsome and frivolous…
Although the performance of the song was strongly discouraged, Lev Leshchenko, one of the most popular Soviet singers, dared to premiere it during his concert in Alma-Ata in late April
Since then, the song has been invariably performed during every Victory Day celebrations in the Soviet Union and Russia, often concluding a program of festivities, with the last stanza drowned in sounds of fireworks over the Red Square.
David MacFadyen explains, "this powerful song draws not upon the bravery of youthful soldiers but the private memories of ageing, greying veterans. Its poignant combination of joy at a stunning victory and sadness at great loss sounds just as relevant today, when the war itself is something about which some young Russians neither know nor care".[1]

Victory Day, how far was it from us
Like an ember dwindled in the faded fire.
Miles were there, burnt and dusted, —
We did all we could for hastening this day.
Chorus:
This Victory Day
Saturated with the smell of gunpowder,
This is a holiday
With gray hairs on temples,
This is joy
With tears in our eyes,
Victory Day!
Victory Day!
Victory Day!
Days and nights at open-hearth furnaces
Our Motherland spent, sleepless.
Days and nights we fought a hard battle,
We did all we could for hastening this day.
Chorus
Hello, Mom, not all of us came back...
Wish to run about barefoot in dew!
Half of Europe, we have stridden half the Earth,
We did all we could for hastening this day.
Chorus x 2

And what good does this do?
As if our slate is clean...:(
Better to have student exchange programs - things which lead to understanding between nations.
