I really don't see anything wrong with it. I've had teachers make similar mildly off color jokes. And frankly I see this as a very mild off color joke. At worst he should've got a off the record talking to. Firing him is a complete over reaction by the school and I'm sure he'll get his job back. No way the teacher's union is going to allow this.

Well, you see, there's the entire problem with the American public education system in a nutshell.

The unions shouldn't have any say in the dismissal of a miscreant teacher.

Stupid to fire em. The kids hear far worse and think of things far worse that that extremely mild joke. And at a far younger age ta boot. Heck in 3rd grade us boys were flipping up girls dresses. Vary briefly mind you. Never even saw anything...no matter how much we wished we had at the time.

I don't understand people getting offended by something like this. If he said it to a class of 2nd graders would they know what he meant or get the joke? This is the kind of thing you only understand if you already know about it. How can that possibly be harmful?

wow, if people get upset about this, they should have heard what was said by teacher and student alike in my history class when i was in school

This is one of those "only in America" moments..

Seriously, those that should be fired are the school leaders that fired him. He said nothing inappropriate what so ever.

i agree wholeheartedly

How in the hell do we know? Do we have all the details? Then how are we to judge? There is no point in starting a poll on every trivial news story that comes along.

It's hardly trivial to the man who lost his job and will likely have a very difficult time finding a new job in his chosen profession. I think it also shows a lack of respect for teachers. It is also a huge overreaction.

I once, during a lecture to junior high kids, meant to write the word public on the board but I accidentally left out the "L" should I still have a job?
