When you say "its in their blood" it's a racial reference, and also refers to Nazi ideology. "Germans" isn't even a race.

When you say "Germans are a warlike people" it's a reference to nationality. The nation has not existed for so long, btw, presumably you are referring to the people who have inhabited the geographical area.

Really, you are taking selective historic information, most of it is alluded to rather than spelled out, btw, to assertain a characteristic of a people.

That's equally false as saying Germans are a philosophical people, though many notable philosophers come from Germany.

I am German, btw, they don't come any more "Germanic" than me, "unadulterated" lineage traced back to the 17th century.

I have neither a warlike attitude, nor am I particularly bright or versed in philosophy, although I do kick arse sometimes - verbally. lol

If you are of German descend, I understand that you may be searching for your "roots" and hold an image of your ancestry - but in this case, it's a stereotype, a fantasy, it's not real - sorry.

i have german blood, my paternal grandmother was german, and i fit the stereotype perfectly, i'm tall, blonde and blue eyed, i can philosophise, but going by racial stereotypes i should also have red hair, drink guiness, eat haggis, wear a kilt and never bathe
 
Of course some would fit the description, it's the generalising which is fraud.

You sound typical Northern European, not just German. I look Northern European but im not certainly not German or Northern European. You know since we are on this subject Hitler did give very mixed signals - he wanted a greater German empire inhabited and ruled by German people but at the same time yapped on about a Teutonic empire. I think he regarded Teutons (Northern Euro's) and Germans as more or less the same thing. Its also a common misunderstanding that he wanted a "blonde and blue eyed" empire - these are'nt neccessarily the attributes of a Northern European as can be seen from Hitler.

Did anybody read Mien Kampf apart from the psycho poster here yapping on about the rise of an another German Reich (and almost boasting about it)?
 
The Order of Teutons was an organisation with a mythical, religion-like theme, not to be taken literally, but there certainly was an affinity to Northern "races" of the same origin. That's not "mixed signals", but a nuanced inclusion.

Blue eyes and blonde hair were preferred, but not exclusive racial attributes.

This ideology is a thing of the past, it wasn't even universally accepted in Germany at the time.

Well yeah Northern Races including the Germanic race's all originated from Scandinavia though one Northern European race does not exist.

Not really a "thing of the past". It was only a couple of months ago when we had a National Socialist splurring his anti-semetic sentiments here on this very site.

Anti-semitism by itself is not Nazism, and yes, there is a small number of Neo-Nazis, but they are marginal and ridiculed - which won't save you a hospital visit if you are at the wrong place at the wrong time, and I apologise for this.

It is in the past that this was acceptable mainstream opinion in Germany.

For that the Judenhass has to be explicitly racial, not just some grudge over Jews killing their would-be King. You also need add a belief that Japs are more Aryan than most white people, and a propensity to invade Poland for the fun of it.

Whats the criteria of the poll? Military might? Economic? Political?

Just looking through posts, the majority of the decisions seem to be one of those three main ideas...anyone care to clear it up for me?

Ummm ... sorry, but with respect, I don't think that is totally correct. I could be wrong, but I understood Denmark, Norway, Sweden, etc. to be populated by Germanic tribes such as the Saxons, Jutes, Angles and Frisians, some of whom later became the Vikings.

I am quite happy to be corrected if this wrong, :doh but that is what I understand. :)
 
...and they all migrated from further East, hence the name "Caucasian", I think.
