That's the thing about Americans and their history. It's a lot like quoting from the Bible or Alexis de Tocqueville. Pick anything said from any one of them, and the public takes it for gospel. Of course, some of these guys absolutely detested each other and their ideals, but we can make nice and make it seem like they all agreed with each other.

Seems the President of the United States would have made a fine leader for such an organization had there been any, but no, The Unitarian Church was the closest thing.

So then he probably wasn't part of a deist organization. But his writings make it clear he was a deist.

I have a flash for you my left wing friend.....Polls show that about 85% of this country believe in God............
Thanks for stating the obvious, but there's a difference in "believing in a god" and being a die-hard fundie who'd be willing to declare jihad. Plenty of people say they're a Christian and go to church, but still get drunk, have kinky sex, get abortions, and break every rule in the book on a daily basis. If you think this is mainly a nation of hardcore fundies, then you're just dreamin'. It ain't.

I have a critical thinking flash for you my greatly confused associate.

Believing in God does not equate to being religiously active or support notion you have may.

Many Jews do not stay Kosher. Yet they believe in their God. Many do not regularly go to Temple. Many Christians don't regularly go to Church. Deists don't even have an organized religion.

I have a flash for you my old wrinkled friend.......... someone who says they believe in God doesn't necessarily make them a practicing religious person.

I think it would be cool if there was a Christian religious revolution in our country, and Jesus himself showed up to lead it. Then the Flying Spaghetti Monster came in to defend the nonbelievers, and they ended up fighting each other in a UFC octagon.

Unless Jesus looks like this:

Then we're all ****ed.

If there's one thing Navy Pride can do consistently, it's get virtually everyone who normally disagree with each other on all issues to uniformly agree NP is dead wrong.

Interesting you keep pretending I'm a leftist when you repeatedly defended Bush's massive government, intrusion into private lives by the federal government and obscene liberal spending.

You can keep pretending you're a conservative, but that would require pretending.

I do think it's funny how we now make predictions based on the opposite of what you say.

The Christian Right saying that it needs a "revolution" to "retake the country" is doing exactly what the Communists did when after they took power they start proclaiming the need for "cultural revolutions". The Russians and Chinese were constantly proclaiming how the entire system was about to topple unless everyone obediently rooted out the "counter-revolutionaries" and "monarchists" and "foreign agents"- despite the fact that they were in complete control. It's transparently bull****. They just do it to to keep their supporters in line and keep them energized to take even more power.

They just do it to to keep their supporters in line and keep them energized to take even more power.

Let's just be completely honest here. They don't want power. If they got power, then they'd have to stamp out all of the alleged immorality. And then what?

There goes the gravy train. The LAST thing they want is to get power. Think of all of the cartoonists who lampooned Bush. Where are they now?

They want the status quo so they can complain and threaten and rake in the money.
