What do you think, would people earning over $250K a year miss 5%?

Yes.

They'll miss it.

5% of $250,000 = $12,500

It's theirs and shouldn't be stolen from them.

Probably not that much. But hey, if they won't miss 5 percent, they won't miss 10% either. And really, when you think about it, isn't 15% a more fair amount. And 15% isn't really a nice even number, so how about 20%. And we need some more money to pay for some nice social programs so how about 30%. What? The poor? Pay income taxes? Hateful bigot! The rich need to pull their weight. 40% is more like it.

Sorry, I tried to make it a yes or no, but I messed it up. I bet not all of them would. There are many super rich movie stars who are Democrats.

I think they'd gladly pay 5% in taxes compared to what they do now.

I'm on board.

Oh, no. The Democrats, especially the Hollyweirders, are the stingiest of all. They give their pennies serial numbers.

I think you deliberately misunderstood  I meant an extra 5% to pay for healthcare.

I don't believe they would. I think it would be worth it.

I think it's not anyone else's decision to make what someone should do with their money or whether or not they would "miss" it.

You want to force me to pay thousands of dollars for some other person's health-care because they didn't buy their own?

What about if everyone paid 5%? I'm pretty sure my insurance costs me and my employer more than that now?

It doesn't matter which party one identifies with. If something is taken from you by force and under coercion, you miss it.

What do you mean, "because they didn't buy their own"? That wasn't part of the discussion. If we all paid a percentage of our income then we could work together and provide healthcare for everyone. If someone is sick then they need to be able to see a doctor to get well. We are a civilized nation, not a bunch of selfish gits who don't care about our fellow countrymen, aren't we?

What about if everyone paid 5%? I'm pretty sure my insurance costs me and my employer more than that now?

That will never happen. We have a progressive tax system, and a severe case of class envy in a large portion of our population, with politicians who will readily take advantage of that for their own gains.

Not necessarily. I would be one of those who would be taxed the extra 5% and I think it would be worth it.

Have you any idea how many people don't have an income that does not come from government charity, which taxpayers already pay?

Oh, no. The Democrats, especially the Hollyweirders, are the stingiest of all. They give their pennies serial numbers.

That is so untrue. You always hear of Hollywood stars who leave 100% tips and stuff like that. Maybe it's just the not so well offs who feel the need to hold on to every penny? Has anyone thought of that?

So this is about if they would mind paying 5% more than they are now?

If they were paying 40%, would they mind paying 45% instead?
If they were paying 45%, would they mind paying 50% instead?
If they were paying 50%, would they mind paying 55% instead?
etc etc

It adds up.

So what is the alternative? At this point you are just letting the insurance companies get rich. Would you prefer to let people stay sick with no option to see a doctor?

Not necessarily. I would be one of those who would be taxed the extra 5% and I think it would be worth it.

So donate it. Feel free to give your money away to anyone who will take it. That is your choice.

What should NOT be your choice is how much of MY money will be stolen from me.

What good would that do anyone? I can give $20 to every homeless man I see every day and it won't fix the healthcare system. That's the topic here.

You can give $20 to every homeless man every day and it won't fix anything. There are definitely some problems with the health care system, but what our politicians are currently trying to do won't fix it, and will most likely make it worse. You can't keep piling on the taxes on the rich and fix society's problems. Eventually, the rich will run out, or there will be a tax rebellion, and either way, the system is screwed. What we are doing is unsustainable.
