The Senate Will Pass The Healthcare Bill

The Senate Will Pass The Healthcare Bill

I'm gonna vote yes. I want to see if they're really going to fine me (Not that I'd pay it). If they don't pass it I'll never know outside of speculation and hearsay cause ya know, these things are written down or verified, it's all just legends and myths about what they HEARD was in the bill. Conservatives and Liberals are both guilty, because neither of the lazy ****s have read the bill. This is all politics and we the people are at risk of getting screwed. Hard. with a Congressional broom.

They probably will. If only because democrats realize that this is quite possibly their last year for quite a while to have enough of a majority to get what they want done. Which is exactly all that they have done since they got the majority. Pass things that they've wanted done for years but was always blocked or had to compromise on so much that in the end they still didn't get exactly what they wanted.

This is their chance and they will more than likely take it.

They'll pass a healthcare reform bill that is more conservative than the house version, and then compromises between the bills will take place.

I want to say no. I think what they'll the do they remove any compromises like no abortion funding or something else and will **** themselves on getting it passed or someone will deliberately put something in there that no one wants resulting in it not getting passed. There is also the hope that the so-called blue dog democrats will refuse to vote for the bill.

I'm leaning on no... they won't pass it with a 60 vote. They may pass it via reconcilliation but that I think is a defeat not a victory for the Democrats.

I really don't think it was an accident that the house bill squeaked by. Pelosi wanted the bill as liberal as possible to have as much to bargain with as possible later.

"The bill" is a broad term, since we do not yet know what "the bill" will look like.

Will they pass a bill with the public option in it? Probably not; they'd never get the 60 votes necessary.

Will they pass a bill which doesn't do much except further regulate insurance companies? That's quite possible.

Why would that be defeat. I would see that as a victory and a victory for the American people.
Maybe a defeat for insurance companies. Is that what you are referring to?

If they pass a bill without the public option it would be a joke.....and the Democrats will deserve to lose in the next elections....because there would be no difference between them and the party on no (minus one).

There's one thing I don't understand about the 60 votes thing. Isn't it dependent upon which side has the greater will? I mean, a filibuster can start, go a long time, and ultimately fail, as it did with at least one of the civil rights acts.

I don't want the bill to pass because I want poor people to die of diseases that are otherwise treatable. At least that's what people keep telling me my motivation is.

They will, if they what what is good for them.
Being a Senator is a cushy, very well paying job...with unbelievably good health care benefits.
But I fear that the health care reform bill will be so watered down as to be useless.
We have taken the first step, now we must act again and again to strengthen this bill.
Eventually I'd like to see the end of the insurance companies...
We can have the world's finest health care for all Americans, not just the wealthy.

WTF: You mean "a" health care bill.

Poll can't be answered as written.

Certainly the Senate won't pass the abortion the House passed, and there will have to be reconciliation between the two.

And if it gets delayed long enough, which is why the Messiah is in such a burning rush to pass it soonest, it'll be election time again and it won't be passed at all.

Which is a good thing.

If anything passes the Messiah's desk for his signature, it's a defeat for freedom and the American people.

It's a political defeat. It shows that the majority party cannot influence their own members - not to even speak of influencing the opposition.

Yeah, cuz we all know it's all about poverty and poor people.... ;)

No. It shows the the majority of the majority party are not going to be held hostage by a couple of rouge senators.
As far as influencing the opposition....that is laughable. Do you really believe that the "party of no (minus one)" has given any indication that they are willing to engage in negotiating?

Is that anything like Palin claiming that the bill had kill granny death panels? :doh
Just askin'

The 60 votes ensure cloture and the end of the filibuster.

KKK Byrd filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and LBJ had to ask the Republican leadership of the Senate for assistance to end the filibuster his party was conducting.

They already deserve to lose in the next election.

They're Democrats.

They don't actually conduct 'real' fillibusters anymore. Just the threat is enough to do it.

There are reasons why this is, but I don't understand any of them. I think if there's gonna be a filibuster, the busters better stand their asses up there and give us shrimp recipes, songs, and phone book data until their legs fall out from under them :argue
