I'll start. Yes, I used to be very conservative and over the past 15 years have become very liberal in many respects. I can't really explain why and that is why I posted this pole.

I started out as a hard core Democrat. As I got older I became a neocon'ish conservative under Regan. After the disaster of Bush, I moved closer to the right fiscally and more moderate socially.

So here I am a social moderate and fiscal conservative.

Someplace in the middle like the majority.

No. I was expected to be sensible after the age of 5 or so. Thus, I've never had to adjust my political thinking to match some epiphany of awareness.

The fact that you can't explain should be an incandescent red message to yourself on a field of midnight blue.

I started at classical liberalism after taking a political ideologies course at uni. Performing my own thought experiments over some time has led me to what more closely resembles libertarian socialism. Assuming rational actors and human nature to be something along the lines of what Thomas Hobbes postulates, one may take the logical limit of such assumptions to see fundamental flaws in economic liberalism. Furthermore, I now find libertarian socialism as a better method of achieving the ideological goals of classical liberalism. As a fun analogy, classical liberalism has the nice mathematics of classical mechanics while libertarian socialism has the deep analysis of quantum mechanics.

Absolutely....when I was young 18-21, I was very Republican (even voted for Reagan....a vote that I am ashamed of to this day).

However, I grew up....received a good amount of education and have changed my views 180 degrees.

I chalk it up to being young, naive and ignorant.

And the partisan hackery continues. :doh

I don't believe I'd call my current political ideology a 180 from where it has been in the past other than to say that I usually take a more moderate stand on the issues now, where in the past I was a lot further to the left.

I used to be very Liberal in my youth....then I grew up and opened my eyes.

I've done a 180 with a retrograde 90.;)

young and liberal
middle-age and conservative
late middle-age fiscal conservative, social semi-liberal.

Unlike Blackdog, I still like Reagan.;)

Sorry....just being honest. Once I grew up and left my sheltered existence and went into the real world, I saw that many of the beliefs that I had were completely wrong.....
I was once active in high school and college with young Republican groups...but the more educated I got and the more exposure to real people, the more my attitudes and beliefs changed.

That's funny because the one thing I credit Reagan for was opening my eyes to how wrong almost everything he stood for was.

Funny, I went through the same process.

Fortunately, there are no rules yet that we must all think alike.;)

I learned to stop paying attention to political leanings quite a while ago. The more I tried to fit my views into a box the more confused I got. I'm liberal on some issues, conservative on others, and on some others issues I'm just... out there...

If you're asking me if I've ever changed my mind, the answer is yes.

And mine was the exact and polar opposite. Only difference is I realized the Republican and Democratic party's are two sides of the same coin.

No more koolaid!

I'm afraid my process started out as being Liberal then seeing the truth as I got older.

You find people saying the exact same thing except with a switch in the opposite direction. Do you have something a bit stronger than this or a further explanation? Being as philosophical as possible is proportional to my appreciation of your answer.

You want my frickin life story while I'm at it?
