you read the article already ? ;)

Yeah.

There's no poll on this thread.

Well, not when I posted, there wasn't.

Drug policy is driven by government's desire to control people.

Rather than spending the money to put drug users in jail, the money would be better spent putting politicians in jail.

Even if they haven't done anything.

Well ecstasy does eat holes in your brain...it doesn't seem like it's all that great. But in the end, drug policy is normally built on arbitrary politics and who can get the most money into the pockets of politicians.

Oh ****, you should try it once. It's great! ;)

Naw, I'm good. If I'm really pissed at my brain I can just watch Hannity instead of taking ecstasy.

Comparing the joys of X with that idiot Hannity. That's so sad!

As far as mind altering substances go, I prefer psilocybin.

Nope, comparing the destructive abilities. I avoid both, I like my brain.

Is there evidence that X can be damaging?

As far as mind altering substances go, I prefer psilocybin, which I know is safe.

Yeah there is plenty of evidence. Lots of studies on the effect of ecstasy. Even one time puts a good sized hole in the brain. You can see the results in MRIs which show ever decreasing brain function with increased use of ecstasy.

ecstasy is a potent substance. however alcohol is more devastating in every way.

Is it? While I don't dispute the overall destructive effects alcohol abuse has, I find it hard to believe it's actually more destructive than ecstasy given the immediate affects ecstasy has on the brain. Plus moderate use of alcohol (key there being moderate) can have beneficial results.

alcohol is pretty bad for your brain ...

and your liver ...

and your driver's license ...

and your ability not to get into fights ...

and your ability to hold a job ...

of course Alcohol probably allows you to have the most fun of any drug as well.

but Alcohol fun comes with a steep price ( like waking up in the hospital, in jail, or not at all ) while most other drugs ( except heroin ) are relatively innocent.

For abuse, yes. For moderate consumption, no (moderate consumption, as stated before, can have positive effects). But the affects of ecstasy are purely destructive and manifest upon single use.

I must have 2 or 3 holees in my head!

don't make me laugh.

effects of ecstasy purely destructive ? love and happiness is purely destructive ? you're reading form the wrong script bro.

i don't recall seeing any stories in the news about the husband taking ecstasy then beating his wife to death.

and as far as use vs abuse. you can also take a pill of ecstasy and look at it instead of swallowing - won't eat any holes in your brain that way. you will get about as much out of looking at a pill of X as you would from not abusing alcohol.

no we're talking about THERAPEUTIC DOSE here. meaning one that HAS EFFECT.

you sacrifice about 1/10th as much to get effect from X as you do to get effect from Alcohol.

taking X once a month is not abuse. getting drunk even once is already abuse. and if you're not getting drunk - then what is the point ?

the point of Alcohol is to abuse it.

Drugs are Bad because we can't tax them. I mean, look at hookers! They're destroying EVERYTHING this Nation stands for!

Love,
Your Government

First of all...

:rofl

Yes, I am THAT childish.

Anyway, I agree that drug policy comes down to politics and fear mongering. Unfortunately, very little is known on the scientific side of things as far as certain drugs are concerned. Instead of wanting to learn more about these things we make them illegal and bury our heads in the ground, which is unfortunate. A good example would be Salvia, which is one of the newest drugs to be put in the cross-hairs of the government. Politicians have no idea what the true effects of this drug are. They know that kids are getting them and recording idiotic videos of themselves on YouTube and that terrifies them. So rather than putting a government regulation on this stuff they just ban it. We should always favor knowledge and information over ignorance, which is unfortunately what we mostly get as far as government drug policy are concerned.

I think maybe you should research the effects of ecstasy on the brain. What you have written here is gibberish. There is scientific evidence which states that moderate consumption of alcohol has health benefits. So obviously alcohol isn't damaging all the time, moderate use is alright. It does fall off steeply with over consumption, of course, and can lead to many bad things. Ecstasy, sure it makes you feel good. Way better than alcohol, to get anywhere close a result with alcohol you have to drink A LOT. But it has terrible effects on the brain in terms of chemical transmitters/receptors and activity from the word go.
