I consider any criminal registry as "cruel and unusual punishment" and should be illegal. Sex crimes are the only crimes in the US that have a guaranteed life long sentence regardless of the crime. They also limit you on where you can live among other things.

The human body is beautiful in its natural state
Hmmmmm . . . I would hazard a guess that you've never been a medical worker, or you'd know that most human bodies are not particularly beautiful, and a large minority of them, are actually grotesque.

As for your disconnect of nudity and sex, I would hazard a guess that you've never been a male. I would list the things that we relate to sex, but in the interest of brevity I will list below the things that do not have a sexual component for us.

In situations where nudity is the norm, men (and women) quickly become habituated to it and no longer associate it with sex.
What you are describing is purely the result of social conditioning.
One hundred years ago, men would've gone haywire if they'd seen a woman wearing a skirt that showed her knee. They probably wouldn't've been able to contain themselves.
Men in other cultures claim they can't be responsible for themselves if women show their faces publicly: too erotic.

Men would get used to it. I have the utmost faith in them.

Actually, yes I have had experience in the medical profession. I spent two years in nursing school, but quit just before graduation (combination of health problems and instructor conflict). I've seen some pretty gross stuff, yes, but I stand by my assessment that the human body, in it's natural state, is a fascinating, beautiful thing.

Exactly right. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I would have to say it depends on what minor did. If a minor raped someone shouldn't that minor be put on a sex offender list after he or she gets out of prison?

No.

This is because there are too many jurisdictions that classify a 16 year-old having sex with 14 year-old to be rape. It's not. It's two teenagers experimenting but it is not rape. This view is the result of a the religious and political beliefs of the bourgeoisie (upper class) being forced on the lower class.

These rich assholes seem to forget that they themselves were once teenagers who did exactly the same thing.

Also, minors are called minors specifically because they have not reached the age of majority. They are not mature enough to make adult decisions and therefore cannot be held to the same standards as adults. In most cases, juvenile records are sealed to protect the minor after he or she reaches the age of majority.

In fact, I believe any attorney who even suggests such a thing should be disbarred. Suggesting such a thing is usually more about making a political statement than about justice. As such, it should be outlawed.

Kids do stupid things. Kids are immature and can be helped if the opportunity is there. Being on the sex offenders list completely ruins lives and renders these kids unhelpable.

Brilliant analysis Watson... :rofl

Should this high school 17 year old, who flouted the threats and admonitions of the school administration, be put on a sex offender list for exposing himself to minors? Being on a sex offender list can seriously disrupt ones career and other aspirations, as you all know.

No, but the school administration should be speedily sent to the electric chair without trial for even proposing this. Pretty soon we won't even know who's a pedophile and who isn't if our moron judges keep using this little amount common sense.

Minors do not belong on the sex offenders list. To even suggest such a thing shows complete contempt for human nature, development, and the age of majority.

That proscutor should be ashmed of himself.
I'm thinking of emailing the prosecutor some death threats. Who's with me?

In the same time it would've taken me to stare at a streaker, I could have found probably about 10 penis pics just browsing Wikipedia.

Most prosecutors get those regularly. Unless they're really scary, I doubt that prosecutor will even bat an eye.

CSOM Publications

Sexual aggression perpetrated by young people has been a growing concern in the United States over the past decade. Currently, it is estimated that juveniles account for up to one-fifth of all rapes and almost one-half of all cases of child molestation committed each year (Barbaree et al, 1993, Becker et al, 1993, Sickmund et al, 1997).

These stats haven't changed much over the years. Labeling a streaker as a sex offender is absurd. However, suggesting that juveniles should NEVER be labeled as sex offenders because of their age is equally absurd.

This is just stupid. Putting every random person who pulled a prank or got drunk and urinated in public or had sex with their girlfriend in a car and got caught...that just pads the list with people who don't deserve it. It diminishes the seriousness with which we should take the list and thus diminishes the seriousness with which we treat real sex offenders.

I don't believe that teenagers are automatically exempt from the sex offender list, being the victim of a teen abuser at 6 years old myself. However, I do think that a little common sense needs to be applied because there is a big difference between sex offense and nudity. How we tied sex and nudity together so intimately is beyond me because the two are not mutually inclusive.

Oh come on people have some fun:

Quoted for truth. If crap like this keeps up pretty soon the "sex offender" list will be regarded as a junk list of people who managed to piss off the ultraconservative "sex and nudity are teh devil!" crowd. We won't even be able to tell a child rapist from a guy who dropped his pants at a bachelor party after getting stoned. Thanks a lot prudes. You never fail to suck at everything you bitch about.:doh

If it was consensual then it should not considered rape.

The fact they are minors should not exclude them from being punished for committing a crime. Most kids know the difference between right wrong,Victims of crimes should not be cheated out of justice just because their assailant was a minor.

If a minor actually raped someone and is put on a sex offender list I could care less if the rest of his life is ruined.
