Should this high school 17 year old, who flouted the threats and admonitions of the school administration, be put on a sex offender list for exposing himself to minors? Being on a sex offender list can seriously disrupt ones career and other aspirations, as you all know.

St. Francis High School Strikes Down On Streakers - wcco.com

At some point in your life there is a good chance you were at a sporting event where someone decided to streak. You might have even laughed about it, but at St. Francis High School streaking is no longer a laughing matter. Lately, they have seen a little too much of their students a little too often.

"They are in various types of undress. In one case we had a streaker wearing cleats only," said principal Paul Neubauer.

The St. Francis student streakers go back a few years, but this year school officials said it went too far. Football players and fans have seen a total of five streakers at three different games -- one of those was an away game. The last time it happened at St. Francis was for Homecoming and it got a little out of hand. The 17-year-old student streaker was caught and arrested by police on site. Another teen then tried to assault an officer during the arrest...

...One of the teens involved is no longer a student at St. Francis and is now attending another school. Another teen involved faces criminal sexual conduct charges for exposing himself to minors while streaking. He faces up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. He could also be classified as a sex offender if he is charged and convicted.

Why are people so freaked out by nudity?

Yeah, sure let's put the poor kid on a sex offenders list. It's not like there are REAL sex offenders out there to worry about. Let's fill that list with high school pranksters instead. Let's ruin somebody's adult life before it's even started.

What a world...

Minors do not belong on the sex offenders list. To even suggest such a thing shows complete contempt for human nature, development, and the age of majority.

That proscutor should be ashmed of himself.

If they put a minor on the list for exposing himself to minors, then they have to put adults on the list for exposing themselves to adults, don't they?

If it had been a girl, it wouldn't have made the paper.

This used to be a popular activity for my parents' classmates in high school and in college. What was once both vile and humorous has turned into a life-altering decision, apparently.

Absolutely not. WTF is going down with this ****? I mean everytime someone whips it out it's like they can get put on the sex offender list somehow. Streaking isn't a sex offender crime...at least not isolated cases there of. We're going overboard with all this. The lists, the tracking, the freaking out....we need to stop. In CO (I don't know if this is true other places) you can get on that list for public urination.

Too many laws, too many automatic sentencing, too much involvment. People should just not freak out.

Exactly. :applaud

I hate this country's paranoia when it comes to nudity. The human body is beautiful in its natural state, and this has nothing at all to do with sex.

Sex offender registration should be reserved for those who are clearly predatory. I've heard rumors of some being prosecuted, convicted and forced to register for urinating in the bushes on the side of the road in remote areas. I hope that any civil servant (prosecutors, judges, CPS caseworkers, and cops) who seeks to label someone a sex offender for trivial b.s. like this not only loses their job, but rots in hell. These witch hunts are every bit as much a threat to the citizens of any society as real sex offenders. They have no credibility in my eyes and won't until they pull their heads out of their backsides and start going after the true sex offenders.

No surprise here.

Overreaction to everything seems to be the way of the world.

No, then again I am against placing anyone on a sex offenders list.

Why are people so freaked out by nudity?

I wish people could understand how detrimental this- this attitude, this repression- is to humanity in general.

There's an appropriate quote from MIB:

"A person is smart, people are stupid"

We must have zero tolerance in all cases.
Flog the streaker, waterboard him, send him to Turkey.
And do ruin his life forever.
Zero tolerance - forever.:rofl

I think the only people who should be put on sex offender list are rapist, and child molesters and statutory rapist if the victim is 12 years old or younger(this is basically the cut off age in states that enacted laws mandating life in prison or execution for repeat child molesters/rapist). Putting someone on a sex offender list for streaking is just as absurd as putting some drunk guy who pissed in the bushes on a sex offender list. The whole point of a sex offender list is basically to let people know if they have neighbors that might be potentially dangerous to them or their child. Some guy streaking, some drunk pissing in the bushes, some 18 year old who has sex with their significant other that is under 18 or someone who has sex with a 16 year old is not a threat to little Timmy or Suzy. This is nothing but an abuse of laws meant to protect children. At most what should happen is the school should suspend the asswipe for streaking maybe even expelled if he is a repeat trouble maker at the school.

Minors do not belong on the sex offenders list.

I would have to say it depends on what minor did. If a minor raped someone shouldn't that minor be put on a sex offender list after he or she gets out of prison?

We don't have, and as a society never really felt the need to have, an offender list for people who kill other people, so maybe we don't need a sex offender list.

I don't know about you, but if I did my time in the can and then came out to discover that society wasn't done punishing me, I'd decide to make them sorry they ever let me out.

Just saying.

You have a point there. We don't have a murderer list, a breaking and entering list, an animal cruelty list, or any other number of offenses that someone might want to know if their next-door neighbor had committed.

It is because outside of murder, torture and kidnapping sexual offenses are considered especially heinous.

What about murder? And what would you rather know about, that your neighbor has a former breaking and entering conviction or that your neighbor streaked at a high school football game?

I was just telling you why. Please don't assume my position on things by the answering of your question.

I didn't really assume that about you since I've noticed you are a rational, commonsense poster.

I have no opinion on the subject really. I was just answering your question. When you asked me things based on what looked like an assumption on my position. I figured I should explain.

Sorry about any confusion.

I guess I was speaking hypothetically. I should have made that more clear.
