Not a chance, and you'll notice that Mexico has *NOT* decriminalized all drugs, there are limits to the amount of any particular drug that one can possess and not be arrested for it. You can still not deal drugs, you just won't clog their jails for having any trace of illegal substances.

The potheads you hung out with must have been lightweights if they only smoked a joint or two in a day.

Maybe there are some drugs we can keep illegal, like designer drugs and such. But for the most part, drugs should be decriminalized. Rather the drug trade be controlled by Wall Street than foreign drug lords and the government.

5 grams is a really good amount to buy some weed. Man i just cant wait to go buy some weed in Mexico or move out of here.lol

I would hate to know what I would be. The few times I tried it in my youth it knocked my *cough* in the dirt. Needless to say pot wasnt for me so I settled for cigarettes and coffee:).

The war on drugs is a complete failure. It is prohibition, and the crime families are getting rich just like the Kennedys did.

Americans are going to use. Best to regulate it and tax it and prevent it being a black market commodity. Cut the revenue to the drug lords. Law enforcement resources can be put to better use. A fledgling domestic industry will be born.

What do you care what someone else does to their body and their mind?

Of course drugs should be decriminalized, there's no legitimate reason for them to be illegal and no reason whatsoever why our jails should be full of drug users.

I can think of a legitimate reason. Drugs would create addicts and addicts would create crime as an excuse for thier bad behavior and their would be many people who would sympathize with these criminals. Drugs can't be legal because it alters a person's brain chemistry, hell I'm even in favor of war being illegal because war ruins every participant in it. You either die or come home a misery.

No, you don't criminalize something because SOME individuals MIGHT commit crimes while under the influence or because of desiring the influence. If we were going to do that, we would criminalize alcohol, being poor, and peer pressure.

Commiting crimes while under the influence is a completely separate thing and would be treated as such.

As for creating addicts... most of us are addicted to *something*. Hell, most of the ****ing country can't leave the house in the morning without their bloody caffeine fix.

Foods high in fat, salt and sugar alter the brain's chemistry in ways that compel people to overeat.

We gonna make the sun illegal too?

Besides, if I want to alter my brain chemistry, who the hell is the government to tell me I can't?

We should make everything illegal right now!!!!

That's it right there! It's none of the government's business.

I know it's not the government's business. But it is the government business to preserve order and security. Do you want for this country to end up like Mexico?

Hello Everybody:2wave:

Yes, I do. In fact, I want the United States to go above and beyond what Mexico has done, and legalize the sale, production, and distribution of these drugs as well.

The ONLY restrictions I would place on drugs at all are: 1) Make it illegal to share needles, 2) Limit the use of violence-inducing drugs to special clinics where doctors and security guards are on hand.

Uhh the reason Mexican crime is so rampant is BECAUSE of the war on drugs. If drugs were legalized, the drug cartels would have no reason to exist. This is an important step for Mexico, but it doesn't go nearly far enough, because the sale and production of drugs are still illegal.

Whoa! I don't think that's going to happen. We aren't going to lose that quality of being America. People will still work hard and play hard and build families and be American.

The big difference here is that Mexico isnt corrupt due to drug use but instead the money and greed that our war on drug has created.

What's wrong with Mexico?

Are you a Mexican? I'am. My family is polical or judicial whatever you want to call it. My aunt is a federal judge, and my uncle is a federal prosecutor and my grandfather was the Chief Justice of Mexico for a time. You need to understand that the government has no control in Mexico. Things are crazy, if you call the police because your home has been burgalized. The police will go and burgarlize you....again. And the people have no respect for the law and it's not a culture where people treat each other good. There are many bad people and many of those bad people get away with their crimes. If you withdraw a large amount of money from the bank, the banker handing you the money will call her friends. And those friends will rob you at gun point when you leave the bank. Those bank robbers are either gang members or cops. There have been many cases where the victim was shot and killed and the body is never recovered. Do you know what its like for the family to go without never knowing what happened to a love one?
And I remember on the highway, these armed robbers robbed a women in front of a lot of other cars AND not to far away was a cop. Did anyone help her? No. They stole her purse and got away and the other drivers continued about their business without offering to help her or stopping and asking if she was ok. Mexico is not a good country to live and not even to visit. My cousin and his friends got burgarlized in the metro three different times in one day. You can't go to the cops. You can't trust anyone around you.
When you are being robbed remember that you give them whatevery they want BUT never get into a car with them and never let them take you anywhere.

Its not just the government its the people. Society is sick down there.

Again you don't know Mexico like I do.

Legalising small amounts of drugs is an excellent idea. Minor offenders dont need jailtime and major users need treatment not jail.
