Bit of curiosity here. They're offering it at my office and I just realized I've never really gotten one, partially because I avoid shots if possible and partially because I've just never gotten the flu and have convinced myself the moment I actually get the shot is the year I get the flu.

Do you get flu shots, do you not? Do you do it because you want it or you feel like you should do it? Do you not get it because you don't think about it or because you simply don't want it?

I have a healthy fear of needles. And my immune system kicks ass!

I normally get them, but didn't get one last year. Need to get one this year.

I've never gotten the flu shot. Originally it was because I hated needles, but then as I grew older and started my medical profession I saw the pointlessness of it. There is plenty of conflicting research, but my own personal view is that the chemicals in it are damaging to the body and in turn your immune system, and the immune response that some people have to the flu shot mimics illness in the first place.

If you contract the standard flu and your body fights it off, the immunity you gain from that interaction will be much better for you than the shot.

No.
I'm an healthy young male, any flu that comes this way will never see the light again. :2razz:

You need to fix the poll, change Chuck to the Good Reverend for a more dramatic position.

Every year I was in the AF and had a flu shot, I got the flu, hadn't had it since.

The Good Reverend does not do flu shots.

Declaring oneself as a Chuck Norris' equal is a sin of untold levels.
If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't go to sleep tonight.

No. I'm not in the risk category.

I have to, most of the time, due to the Navy. I did get an exemption while pregnant. Now though, I think I'm going to go get the actual shot from the health dept. and bring in the paperwork so that I won't have to get the one that you snort from the Navy. My dislike of things going up my nose outdoes my fear of needles.

And we've already been told that we will be getting the H1N1 vacc. as well as soon as they get them in at the NOSC.

Equal? Please. I roll chuck like a cigarette.

I do not. Im not much on modern medicine and avoid it as much as possible. I simply live with the consequences.

The flu is the one thing that I do worry about since it is a fairly regular occurence and it is also the one thing that really kicks my ass. The last time I had the flu I had such a high fever that my legs would not function correctly and I had to have help walking for 3 or 4 days. My legs simply would not respond when I tried to move them.

Actually, the last time I had the flu, it happened in August. This is generally before the start of flu season. I don't think that I would get the shot if not for the Navy requirement.

Unless one has some sort of allergy to shots, I really don't understand why anyone would NOT get it. It takes maybe 10 minutes of your time, and is free or very cheap.

Yep, I can't afford to get sick for a long time. Usually I feel like **** the next day, but it beats feeling like **** for a week.

Ikari, I used to be afraid of needles until I forced myself to give platelets on a regular basis. I went from almost passing out each time to watching them stick the needle in. You should try it!

Never had a flu shot, don't plan on getting one. I try to avoid medicine and doctor's visits until I actually need them.

I've had the flu like once in almost 40 years, it's not a big enough deal to me to take some shot in an attempt to avoid getting it.

Besides, I'd rather my immune system do it's job.

There are plenty of reasons. One being that I do not like taking medicine unless it is a last resort. I take vitamins and am a relatively healthy individual. Another reason is that I rarely get sick. The Flu has never been an issue for me. Finally, I dislike needles with a passion.

I've already heard way too many horror stories about the side effects of the new supposed "swine flu shot." Not gonna take my chances with that.

I am required to at work.

Benefits:

Because it only really prevents against the three main strains, the seasonal flu vaccine only reduces the chance of suffering influenza symptoms by approximately 30% for healthy adults.

Costs:

It takes time to go get them. Some people report mild side effects, and the fact that they contain thimerosal certainly isn't a plus.

To me, it's not worth it.

Yes, reason, my wife say I whine to much when I'm ill, she is convinced that the majority of men are drama queens when it comes to illness:)
