i give up, you guys got me. no racism is evident or intended. lol.
You mean that you cannot show that racism was intended.
Yes, we know. Thanks!

If i said Michelle being compared to a animal is racist.
Well then by default i am saying anyone being compared to one is racist.

One cannot be 'okay' whilst the other is not.
nope.....we haven't spent centuries dehumanizing whites by comparing them to apes, have we? she wasn't compared to just an animal, she was compared to a specific animal.

She was compared to a fictional animal.

Uh, yeah we have. And Chinese. And latino. And aboriginals.

It's not just a black thing no matter how hard you try to make it so.

And the apish cow does look like a monkey in frock.

OK, so that does nothing to diminish my point that it was done to the white fella for exactly the same reasons. Exactly the same intent.

But I suppose calling the white fella subhuman is just desserts while calling the apish black lady with the broad shoulders and the Zira updo the same thing is just out of line. Like ZOMGWTF, calling a black person a monkey is SRS BSNS but calling a white person a monkey for the same reason, thats just LAWLZ.

Ever hear of reverse racism? Yeah check it out sometime. I'd start with a mirror for reference.
reverse racism? how so?

That it's okay to dehumanize the white guy but not okay to dehumanize the black one.

The end result when you do it to one or the other is dehumanization. And isn't that really what your beef is? But you'll give it a pass when it's done to the white guy.

Reverse racism.

Are black people so weak to be hurt by a picture that wasn't even intended to be racist?

Blacks *shock horror* weren't the only ones compared

anyone comparing bush to a chimp wasn't doing it simply because he was white......they were doing it, imo, because they though he had a chimp level intellect. that's the difference.

Um ... no. They did it because of his appearance. Have you forgotten the side-by-side photos already?

Anyone comparing that apish knuckledragging sow to a monkey isn't doing so because she's black. They're doing so because she's an apish knuckle dragging sow that looks like goddamned chimp from Planet of the Apes.

That's disgusting and not funny at all.

That's because you're a racist. When you look at her all you see is a black woman.

People with an enlightened thought-process don't see her skin color, we only see the comical resemblance to Zora.

no, but that comparison was pretty prevalent. who said blacks are hurt? i think people would be more likely to "just get over it" when "it" becomes history.

btw, my orignal posts had nothing to do with this particular picture, but incivility in general.

What is "it"? Racism?
Well to let you in on a secret. It will always be around.

If Laila wasn't around, I could have so much fun with that one. ;)

Go ahead, doesn't bother me lol

I have forced myself to mellow out for another week

Same thing. I think the office of presidency is owed a certain amount of respect.

That's a reasonable position, and I agree with it, mostly. However, I don't think vocal political opposition in the halls of government is that bad really. The Dems booed Bush because they thought he was lying or taking a bad position; that's fine with me. What's-his-face called Obama a liar because...well...Obama was lying; once again, I'm not too concerned with it.

The British Parliament has always been a lively setting. Our political history is full of heated exchanges and outbursts. I think it's a necessary part of the political dialogue.

I start becoming pissed when people attack the personal dignity of a President. That I don't agree with, but booing or calling them a liar? Not a big deal to me, personally.

We as a nation need to stop pointing fingers, and start just condemning those on the lunatic fringe who act the asshole. It is not, and should not be a partisan issue.

I agree.

The main difference ofc being is that you have a President who represents the United States for all intents and purposes so it makes sense you are more deferential. We have the Queen for that who is put on a stool and never touched or insulted by anyone which gives way for the PM to be kicked about

because of the intent, jallman. calling michelle obama a gorilla is not funny. and if you're referring to the picture you posted, i consider it racist precisely because she's being compared to a chimp. when blacks have been called monkeys for centuries, it might wear a little thin.

You just refuted your own argument with the underlined statement.

Good grief, we've always embraced aggressive, rude, and impolite politics in this country.

For decades after the Founding, the hyperpartisan press of the day engaged in routine attacks on the physique of their political opponents.

In the 1860s, we marched armies against each other over politics.

Lies, riots, assault and slander have always been common practices of our political discourse.

Would we be better for being more civil? Of course!, but it takes effort on all sides to arrive at that state, and it would be a severe departure from our history.

That much is true -- the "intent" behind the Michelle/Zira pic was clearly NOT racist, or even uncivil.

How about we just put it this way:

Whoever doesn't see the plain, non-racist humor here has a baseball bat-sized stick up their ass and really needs to lighten up -- for their own good as well as everyone else's.
