because of the intent, jallman. calling michelle obama a gorilla is not funny. and if you're referring to the picture you posted, i consider it racist precisely because she's being compared to a chimp. when blacks have been called monkeys for centuries, it might wear a little thin.

What intent? To laugh at a similarity? To call someone less than human without being absurd enough to call them an amoeba or a platypus? Because ummm...that's what they did to Bush. Precisely what they did to Bush. So how come it's racist when it's done to Zira..I mean...Michelle and not when its done to the big eared mongoloid white fella? Its doing the exact same thing. Exactly the same thing.

WHITES, BLACKS, & APES IN THE GREAT CHAIN OF BEING Sociological Images

here's why.

how do you know what the intent was with picture?[
Arent't YOU the one arguing that it is racist because of the intent?
How do YOU know what the intent was?

how do you know what the intent was with picture? i kinda do know a little about what black people might feel, and they're not smiling.

WHITES, BLACKS, & APES IN THE GREAT CHAIN OF BEING Sociological Images

The real question is how do you know it was meant to be racist? Just because the person was black means it is racist?
What about when a white person is compared to a ape? Is that not as racist?

And how do you know what black people 'might feel'? And what makes you right and me wrong?
Is it politically incorrect to say i enjoy a decent racist joke or two when a comedian is on stage?

OK, so that does nothing to diminish my point that it was done to the white fella for exactly the same reasons. Exactly the same intent.

But I suppose calling the white fella subhuman is just desserts while calling the apish black lady with the broad shoulders and the Zira updo the same thing is just out of line. Like ZOMGWTF, calling a black person a monkey is SRS BSNS but calling a white person a monkey for the same reason, thats just LAWLZ.

Ever hear of reverse racism? Yeah check it out sometime. I'd start with a mirror for reference.

Perhaps she has black friends?

Well i suppose she has me beat then

This is stupid.
If it was racist, i'd be the first person jumping over it. It is just a picture.

People need to grow up and stop picking and choosing what to be outraged about.

i don't know if it was or wasn't. that's not my point. my point was how black people perceive it, and rightly so. and in answer to your question about how i might know, i have a very mixed family.

you can enjoy what you wish. i'm not politically correct, never have been. and i've been known to snicker now and again, despite myself. but i've never thought comparing blacks to monkeys was cool. that's just me.

Are you now arguing that you don't know if the intent was to be racist, or not?

And if not, doesnt that negate your position that it IS racist?

The people who jump over such a image automatically as racist needs their heads checked.

I'd also love to know if they would act half as outraged if it was white person being compared to a animal ... I would bet money they would not.

we all pick and choose what to be outraged about.

don't we?

don't we?

If i said Michelle being compared to a animal is racist.
Well then by default i am saying anyone being compared to one is racist.

One cannot be 'okay' whilst the other is not.

you're right. the foodstamps picture was racist, the comparison of michelle obama to a gorilla was racist, maybe the picture wasn't. you got me.

Well at least you confess that your outrage is nothing more than selective.
You, me and Laila agree.
Satan must be hosting a snowball fight.

all outrage is selective. i don't believe i ever used the word outraged, though.

Indeed.
I think this is the first time i have ever agreed with you on anything ... probably the last as well.
