It certainly CAN be racist. Anyone saying it absolutely can't be is insane. I just think its also wrong to say that it absolutely IS racist.
Context matters in that and there is no reason to see that and immedietely, instantly, assume the person is making a racist joke or trying to be racist or claiming that is what it is.
Perhaps in an absolute vaccum that assuption that could be assumed, but things don't exist in an absolute vacuum.
And I reject this notion that someone shouldn't post it or make such jokes out of this asinine feeling of Political Correctness so many people have.
I agree. On the other hand, I can understand why some blacks have a knee jerk reaction to be offended by such things. I don't agree with them, but I understand it.
Its like the Confederate flag. Its been used as a symbol of the south and state rights, but its also been used as a symbol of racial hatred. The Confederacy fought a war over the specific state right to keep and own slaves. To say "How can you be offended by this?" just strikes me as disengenous.
I don't agree with them taking automatic offense. I agree context is important, but I also understand that certain images have cultural baggage that we haven't quite managed to drop just yet.
