Does Arizona have an image problem?

Take a look at the image of "a man carrying an ar15 rifle".

Why is it that the major media outlets are running this one image of this black man who was at the Obama rally armed and protesting Obama?

Instead of the hundreds of other images / full body images of this guy.

I think this comment form one of the posters covers it pretty well...

"Our Founding fathers must have worried about an image problem when they carried muskets to fight the British. Image is more important than real substantive issues!!!

End of story.

It is unusual for people to carry weapons to see the president. There is no legislation up in regards to gun ownership, therefor I do not see the reasoning behind the packing of such a weapon. It is to make a statement, however at a talk on healthcare it simply makes the one carrying it look like a fool.

This discussion isn't about gun rights.

This discussion is about the media attempting to keep the knowledge that it was a black man carrying this ar15 to the town hall discussion.

Why are they trying to do that? Damage control for the Messiah? Or are they trying to keep the deep seeded notion that only rednecks own guns?

Why do you feel that they are trying to hide the fact that it was a black man? All the pictures of him I saw, one could clearly tell it was a black man.

So, was this the latest talking point du jour in the Ron Paul Survivalist report? Is it Hannity? Michael Savage? Neil Bortz? Some other extreme right lunatic?

Pretty much every article from leftist rags I've read have used the image in the article I've linked.

Why?

Sweet, it's the jump to conclusions mat.

I'll take... you're an idiot liberal for 10 points... can I jump now?

Here is an example of the pic I saw on every article on the subject.

Again, I can clearly tell he is a black man. I do not think there is any conspiracy, as it appears you think.

Eh, maybe I'm just sensitive to it.. but I've noticed much of the same type of "reporting" as the youtube video concerning this.

The report you posted is surely sorrowful to see, however the lady certainly pointed to the fact that the guy carrying the AR-15 was black. Also, it was the black gentlemen in the video who brought-up the racist issue. This does have slant, but historically speaking, the media has always been biased to some degree. More so actually during the early years of this nation. I am a gun owner and a responsible citizen. I support the right of these protestors, though I support the president. When such displays are made though, one must expect criticism, and such is the case here. The country and especially the media view extreme shows of protest, as the gun toters display, as fringe and certainly not normal, therefor the label such individuals as radicals. This may be radical white racists, or rednecks or whatever. The point is it shows an extreme side and such extremes will be painted more so in order to sensationalize and sell the news.

I actually agree with you.

What they did was their right, I do think it was in poor form... but.. again, you need no justifications to exercise your rights.

I looked at your photo and the others and I could not tell he was black. To be honest unless I was looking for it specifically I would not notice.

It is funny the way the media is hiding his color though.

I do not think there are any frontal photographs of him. You really could not tell he was black?!?! His neck and arms are black!

He he Yes I could when I looked for it. Otherwise just glancing at the picture no I could not.

I think the media in general tries to portray 2nd amendment proponents as rednecks or hillbillies and tries to portray hillbillies and rednecks as stupid, racist or just crazy. Black people in general are not viewed as rednecks(although I met a few in the past who were rednecks) or hillbillies.

It is entirely possible that a some segments of the media attempted to portray it as you describe.

But not ALL of them.

THe media in general tries to attach a negative connotation to firearms. Every time there is a mass shooting the media airs the story and makes sure to mention that the shooter used a gun and it gets heavy press coverage, when ever someone stops a crime from happening by using his gun that story gets barely any mention and if it is mention the fact he or she used a gun is not mentioned.

I think its pretty much commonly accepted that conservative minorities are for the most part nutjobs. Look at Alan Keyes for example. ;)

seems to me the rifle is the focus here...and i've seen plenty of clips showing the man.
