What is with this entitlement mentality? Why does everyone seem to think it is their right to get everything free?

Entitlement? this is not everyone getting something for free. This is a smoker paying for future ramifications/treatment of his/her addiction.

If you don't want to pay this tax, don't smoke its simple.

This hypothetical is NOT a tax on the whole population, just a tax on tobacco.

The $0.61 cents a pack smokers are now paying for children's health care on the other hand...

Dying isn't quitting, it's just beating the game. :2razz:

well hell if that is the case, I have no desire to beat the game. I would rather be a loser and have a few extra rounds :2razz:

I have tried to quit many times including using the patch etc. I smoked 1 and 1/2 to 2 packs a day for 27 years, so it was difficult. nothing worked.

I went and had the laser acupuncture done for $150.00. It is amazing. No physical want to smoke at all, none. It was like quitting cold Turkey without the constant physical nag to smoke. Been only 2 weeks and I have no desire to smoke ever.

So I checked other.

So this could be considered treatment.. and in your case was obviously effective, and it does have a fairly good record as being an effective treatment.

Although I did not word my poll accurately enough so that you felt that this was included, what if this and other options that were deemed effective (patches, gum, chantix, acupuncture, hypnosis -any and all methods that were found to be effective) were made available as a result of a tax on cigs?

Your question stated If there was an effective treatment option for your addiction readily available, and at no cost ....

Doesn't matter what tax money was used. Per your senario, it would be at no cost to the person getting the benefit and others would be funding it for him.

i used chantix.......worked great.

i used chantix.......worked great.

Chantix turned me into a raving lunatic. Like seriously crazy. Everyone noticed a huge shift in my personality.

I ended up quitting the chantix after a couple of weeks and going cold turkey, which lasted about 7 months before I ended up going back on them.

But once I got off the chantix, my personality got back to normal in a couple of days.

Since I'm back on them, I'm thinking about quitting again, but I'll go cold turkey next time.

It would not be as "no cost" to the person seeking the service; rather it would be a cost that they had already paid for over the long term. It would be pre-paid treatment.

Sorry if i worded this all poorly.. I was only 1 cup of coffee into my day when I made the poll :2razz:

I own my body, not the state. I do not need the state telling me what I can or cannot do with my body be it with taxes or anything else. So I would be against it.

I decided I needed to quit smoking because of my diabetes. It was my decision and the state needs to stop taxing the piss out of everything they deem "bad" for me. I am an adult, they need to recognize that.

This is a spin off poll from this thread: http://www.debatepolitics.com/breaking-news/55024-ap-impact-new-meth-formula-avoids-anti-drug-laws.html

The question is for those who smoke (or have other tobacco/nicotine addictions).

If there was an effective treatment option for your addiction readily available, and at no cost funded from a tax on tobacco products would you participate, and do you think you could kick the habit with readily available professional help/treatment?

Yes, while the country is being bankrupted, the most importat thing is for my tax dollars to pay for you to stop smoking. :doh:roll:

I would indeed take advantage, but not sure it would work as I do really enjoy a good smoke!

So do those that never use the program get their money back? ;)

So if it was a freeby, you wouldn't mind wasting the money but you are not willing to risk it if you had to use your own money. Exactly why it shoud not be government funded. ;)

Do you have kids? If not, how do you feel about paying school taxes for other people's children?

I've never heard of this blackdog. Laser acupuncture sounds scary and painful. What is it? How does it work? Is it one treatment or multiple? I would pay 150.00 to become a non smoker in a heartbeat if the treatment removed the desire for a puff.

Fill me in, please.

It was wonderful. It works in 85% of the cases.

No pain at all, none. I takes about 30 Min's. I was in a dimly lit relaxing room with soft music playing.

I have not had the physical urge to smoke since then. Don't get me wrong you still have the withdrawals and the habit (like wanting a smoke after you eat) but the physical want is gone.

From what I understand it makes your brain think your body has nicotine, when in fact the levels are dropping.

If you have tried everything else and nothing worked, you should give it a try. It has worked for all the people I know personally who have tried it.

So you don't feel the laser acupunture at all? Do you see where it's aimed? I mean is on your hand, head, ??

It does not puncture the skin in any way. It is a medical laser light.

It is used on your ears and for arms. Those are the pressure points they are hitting.

Like I said no pain, nothing. No poking, prodding or cutting of any type involved. Just a light applied to pressure point area's.
