It is easy to drop 15 bucks at a McDonald's nowadays, but why? You can spend the same amount of money at a good cafeteria, and can even get your food to go. So, here is my poll.

BTW, yesterday, I spent $14.00 at Luby's. For myself, I got baked fish, mashed potatoes, and spinach, along with a roll and butter. For my wife, she had a chopped steak, mashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli, along with a roll and butter.

At McDonald's, 2 Big Mac meals, consisting of loads of fat and sugar, burgers that you have to use a microscope to see, and cokes - This is for 2 people - Is going to run you almost as much. Why? Do some people want to end up fat and unhealthy?

McDonald's, Burger King, and all the rest, are junk food, and junk food eventually kills. I would rather spend about a buck more for my wife and myself, and live a little longer. How about you?

Why not spend even less and prepare it at home?

We also do that, but the topic of the thread is food to go. Which do you think is better?

I don't really care to be honest, i eat what works for me at the time ... (The fact that it might kill me does not cross my mind at all)
Sometimes i go out cafe or cook, other times i crave for my junk food and will eat alot of it.

Ya, I'd rather eat healthy. When you factor in all the health problems associated with fast food, it's really not very cheap at all.

P.S. What in the world is Luby's?

I love Luby's. OUrs closed down about 5 years ago, though. It was a sad day for me (and for my kids).

McD's always gives me diarrhea.

My favorite places around town tend to be slightly more expensive for me than McDonalds. McDonald's I can honestly get enough to eat there for 3 bucks, it says a lot about it's quality. There are some places I love that I can not get enough to eat..namely any place with good sushi. But even at Gohan Time or Oshima Ramen I'm spending just myself about 10 bucks. Those are sorta standard, not horribly expensive restaurants. And the ramen at Oshima Ramen is soooooooooo good. Roll Cafe in town I can probably get some good amount of food for maybe 8 or so bucks. Though I rarely spend that little there. Tako nigiri style sushi is my downfall.

God I love Colorado.

Well I guess this is all preference. While I like home cooking style food better then fast food, the last Lubys I ate at turned me off. They were very unclean and ecky. So given the two choices listed here I would have to go with Micky D's.

I have never spent more than two dollars at McDonald's; it's called the dollar menu.

I would take McDonald's over Luby's any day of the week. I have been to Luby's twice and found that all of their tastes the same... Bland.

Heh I wish I could. I eat like a horse and always have. No Im not one bit fat, I just have the metabolism of a cheetah. I can consume 4-5k calories a day and not gain a pound.

How you can spend $15 for two people at McDonalds is beyond me. I can feed a family of four there (granted, to-go with no drinks) for about $12. Is it great food? Of course not, you get what you pay for.

I haven't got a clue what Luby's is, we don't have cafeterias around here.

I have never met you, and McDonald's does NOT own me.
Danny;

There is a popular BBQ place not far from the AstroDome that some locals took me to several years ago but I can't remember the name. It was the best BBQ I've ever had.

I was amazed at the take-out business they had.

For $3.00 dollars at McDonalds I can get a double cheeseburger, small fries and a small drink. For two people thats $6.00.

Unless you are eating at McDonalds every single day McDonalds is not going to kill you or turn you into a lard ass. Besides you would get bored eating at McDonalds every day. What kind of life do you live if you or your wife can't cook a meal at home?

If you're gonna get Big Mac's then yea, it's gonna be a little expensive. You gotta look at the Dollar Menu!

Whenever I feel cheap, I get two $1 Mcdouble, 2 pies (cheery/apple) for $1, and take it home. Never get soda, since it's always cheaper to get it at the store.

Fastfood is nasty.

Subway for the win! Some would wager that Subway is fast food. I would say: "Nay. Subway is not fastfood, for it does not suck."

Subway is not nearly as healthy as they like to say it is.

I have no idea what "Luby's" is, but sometimes I crave a Big Mac and there ain't nothin' that's gonna fix that but a damn Big Mac.

I rarely eat fast food, but when I want it, I ****ing want it and I go get it. :)

That said, I crave 'healthy' meals as well. Basically, I eat whatever the hell I decide sounds good that day. LOL Sometimes it's SPAM and eggs. Sometimes it's smoked turkey on a bagel. Sometimes it's Ramen. Sometimes it's chinese takeout. Sometimes Thai takeout. Sometimes Mickey D's. Sometimes cubed steak with steamed veges.

I don't really consider the "value" of the food I'm eating. I consider the following: "What do I feel like eating right *now*?"

I've actually just gotten interested in eating healthy. I've basically been living the "college lifestyle" ever since I was 18...which basically means I'd eat fast food every day and/or cook some nasty processed food. Not exactly the healthiest lifestyle.

I think most people would be amazed how much better they would feel (and how much weight they could lose) just by a few very simple dietary changes.

The anceint Spartans used to feed their children from birth to the age of 18 on nothing but rain water and cup-o-noodles.

It did not do them any harm.

Get two extra value meals. With tax that can come up to about $15, particularly if you get the chicken items. Or you could get 13 dollar menu burgers instead.

Sure, by choosing the most expensive items on the menu, then the cheapest at the local cafeteria... but that's not really a fair comparison, is it?

If I'm gonna pay for someone else to make my food it has to be good. When we go out we prefer Indian, Thai, Sushi, or a decent Italian place. I also like to sit down and spend some time there appreciating the fact that I don't have to cook or clean up.

Is Luby's like a diner? We don't have many diners here.
