Do you really want me to list everything, it would be a long list. How come you ridicule Mormons and you don't even have the knowledge to know just how inaccurate it is.

Yes I want you to list what was wrong in the video. I ridicule Mormons because it is a looney religion, even by looney religion criteria.

I would not care one way or the other.

I try to keep religion and my secular politics separate.

Gathering from that video, sounds like damn scientology.

[FONT=verdana, sans-serif]You can believe your ignorant and inaccurate caricature of Mormons, that's your prerogative. Just one example of many blatant and dishonest inaccuracies in the video:

Quote from video: "The Mormons thank God for Joseph Smith who claimed that he done more for us than any other man including Jesus Christ."

Actual LDS quote it is based on from the D&C after Joseph and Hyrum were martyred:

"Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it. In the short space of twenty years, he has brought forth the Book of Mormon, which he translated by the gift and power of God, and has been the means of publishing it on two continents; has sent the fullness of the everlasting gospel, which it contained, to the four quarters of the earth; has brought forth the revelations and commandments which compose this book of Doctrine and Covenants, and many other wise documents and instructions for the benefit of the children of men; gathered many thousands of the Latter-day Saints, founded a great city, and left a fame and name that cannot be slain. He lived great, and he died great in the eyes of God and his people; and like most of the Lord’s anointed in ancient times, has sealed his mission and his works with his own blood; and so has his brother Hyrum" (Doctrine and Covenants 135:3)

I don't think Mormons are loony, but I would also like to know how the video was inaccurate.

I read the Book of Mormon and it is historically very inaccurate. Things like horses were here before the 1400's and other blatant inaccuracy's. I am not even going to go into the black skin thing which I know from the video was true.

So I would like to see where the video is wrong myself.

Where is this "golden plate" then that he claimed to have found from upstate New York, that he apparently translated to create the Book of Mormon?

. . . many Americans have yet to grow up and rid themselves of their "islamophobia." . ..?

The process would be accelerated if men neame Mohammed would stop exploding in crowds of strangers and murdering their daughters for wearing lipstick.

The fact that the President or somebody else may be a Muslim does not matter one bit to me.

In fact, I answered "Other" because I would much prefer to have a President that was a Muslim then I would an Athiest.

Because Islam is still an Abrahamic Religion, which endorses doing good deeds in this life, in exchange for greater benefit in the next life.

. One of these philosophies is accepting the beliefs of others as different but not denouncing or criticizing them without due cause.

?

I think the question here isn't really so much that you denounce various philosophies without due cause, but whether or not you fail to denounce when there is plenty of cause.

You speak of something called "Islamaphobia", but the other side of that particular coin are all those that indulge in a very determined pattern of apologia where NOTHING about Islam is ever criticized including the actions of Islamists. By adopting such a very extreme sense of moral relativism, all one shows is that they are not capable of much discernment.

The angel took them back.

Yall can start a thread if you want to discuss Mormonism and I'll answer one thing at a time as I get time. The format I request-ask one question, I'll respond, and then its my turn.

See my post above. Quick response on the black skin. Nowhere is skin color taught as being connected with righteousness in anything canonical. In fact the most righteous people in the Book of Mormon were the dark skinned lamanaites that accepted the gospel. The only mention of blacks in the LDS scriptures is the following in the BOM:

For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile.

I showed you a blatant lie in your video. If you were honest you'd apologize for slandering the beliefs of a people.

Slandering is only applicable if the statements werent true. The beliefs of these people are quiet looney sort of like a mix of scientology and 9/11 truthers. I mean you have a right to your beliefs but I wouldnt want a mormon as President, that is quiet scary.

Let's be honest, absolutely no religion exists where someone, somewhere, in another religion doesn't think it's beliefs are "looney".

Someone out there thinks the lack of any belief is "looney"

Someone out there thinks believing a dude once turned water into wine at a wedding is "looney".

Someone out there thinks believing that there is a goddess death is "looney".

Someone out there thinks believing that the Earth was created in 7 days is "looney".

IMO, thinking someone's beliefs are "looney" is all well and good, but also requires that person to ignore the "looniness" inherent in their own beliefs.

Let's face it, when trying to explain that which cannot be explained, the answers we come up with will always have some degree of lunacy, regardless of what they are.

The earth being created in 7 literal days is rather loony.

But regardless, if Obama was a muslim; he'd still be doing a poor job as President. His religion doesn't matter that much.

The angel took them back. Okay, the angel took them back.

Did it ever occur to Y'all, my Alabama homie, that there WAS nothing for the angel to take back?

If you dont follow a religions main themes then you dont really follow the religion you simply associate with the culture.

Religion isnt something where you can pick and choose. Either you follow it or you do not.

If I told you I am a human but I dont need to eat, drink or breathe then I wouldnt really be a human.

If you dont accept Jesus then you are not Christian. You are not Hindu, you are agnostic with affinity toward the Hindu society.

I am a Neo Pagan/Shamanism.

Well then, damn ... we're just purely stating our opinions now. :(

Ok explain to me what the term religion means.

Because religion is so expansive and different all over the world, and because it is seen as different through the eyes of different people, its not entirely possible to give one perfect definition of religion.

This is what I usually use when I think about religion, its a quote I found on another forum. Its on Wikipedia too, but its from a different source, not just some random Wikipedia fanboy. I'm not sure who said it, but I can find the speaker if you want me to:

"A religion is an organized approach to human spirituality which usually encompasses a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices, often with a supernatural or transcendent quality, that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power, God or gods, or ultimate truth."

In my case its just the ultimate truth. In Hinduism, many people pick and choose various parts of the religion and still consider themselves Hindu. Maybe the idea of following one set of strict rules is followed in your Paganism, and that's fine, but that's not the case worldwide.

Nice dodge.;)

No I chose Paganism because it gives me the freedom to pick and choose what I find to be the truth. If I followed a religion then I must follow its rules and regulations if I do not then why have organized religion at all. In my opinion that would be the best solution.

I was being serious, its impossible to define religion worldwide. Stop joking around and be serious otherwise people will easily dismiss you and refuse to debate you.

Good, that's exactly what I do. I don't believe in organized religion either. Hinduism is not as organized as, let's say, Catholicism, which seems strictly organized to the point that its leader is one of the most influential people in the world. Their are multiple sects of Hinduism that many people around the world do not recognize. For example you have the Shivites, who specifically worship Shiva and the Vishnivites who specifically worship Vishnu, both groups are against each other, both groups are Hindu groups yet choose not to worship certain Hindu gods.

I don't follow the religion as a whole, I follow a set of rules that I set for myself that based on the religion. If people wish to follow the strict set of rules so be it, but they can't expect others to do the same.

I really cant understand how this can be a religion if you can simply pick and choose parts of it. I mean I like parts of Kabbala, and accept certain parts of the old testament but I dont claim to follow Judaism.
