Amendment to get rid of the Electoral College?

Should Congress create an amendment to get rid of the Electoral College?

  • Yes

  • No

  • Yes, but it could never get passed.

    Votes: 4 9.8%
  • I have no opinion.

    Votes: 3 7.3%

  • Total voters

Please give examples.

Obama was elected.

That was clearly the most ignorant thing Americans have ever done in the entire history of the nation, and I'm including the election of Clinton and the election of Carter in my assessment.

There are many important things that Congress must be working on

Our economy

health care reform
The trade deficits
infrastructure and the overall condition of our nation
education
the budget and the shortfalls (deficits)
prison population
Mexican immigrants
homosexual rights
and now this, another controversy, and at this time, not necessary.

How does voting for Clinton or Obama equal to voting for something unconstitutional?

You're wrong. I'm informed on the issues, and I believe my goals are constitutional, and I vote democratic.

Then your belief that you're right is wrong.

Health care, to name one example, is not a Constitutionally allowed federal concern.

Nor is education, the arts, the ethanol and farm subsidies, nor almost anything anyone can figure out that a Democrat politician is actually for. You just can't find the authorization for this nonsense in the Constitution. You can pretend, but honest people can see that your emperor is stark butt naked and has waaaaayyy too much cottage cheese on the thighs, as well.

It demonstrates ignorance.

The agendas of those two clowns was clearly unconstitutional, as anyone reading the Constitution can see.

The electoral college exists to prevent the brainless mass mind of the mob from being swayed by a demogogue and getting a tyrant elected.

You consider the 12th Amendment frivolous?
Hardly. Considering it was a reaction to the political bloodbath known as the election of 1800, anyone calling it frivolous failed American History in high school.

However, it is worth noting that even then, the Electoral College was preserved. That should give some indication of the significance and importance the founding fathers attached to it.

Getting rid of the electoral college could lead to solving those two.

What did Clinton do and what has Obama done that is unconstitutional? And I mean their political stances not Bill Clinton being a pervert.

Of course, they felt it preserved the Union. As at that time, Virginia and Pennsylvania were the most populated states.

I would say no. I think if you go completely popular, you are going to leave out rural areas and less populated states while focusing mostly on large cities.

So it would be the same as now? Little towns get less say under either system. But here's a biggie, my friend: Any system where the person getting the most votes can lose is fatally flawed. They invented the electoral college because the people did not vote for President. Given no popular vote you needed a system in place to elect the President. Once we moved to popular vote there was little need for the electoral college. Which is why we're the only one that have one. Everyone else can see it's stupid.

Promoting their left-wing agendas.

Look at the rush your Messiah is in to destroy the nation's health care industry as soon as possible. The government has absolutely no authority to meddle in that industry, let alone nationalize it.

Hillarycare was the same plan, steal the industry, have pet bureaucrats run it.

The people still don't vote for president.

The nation is a republic, not a democracy, and the electoral college is one of the few remaining bulwarks against democracy this nation has. You should treasure it.

So what?

You mean besides violating the Constitution as well as running the national debt through the roof, necessitating a minimum projected across the board tax increase - in a depression - of 8% with no ceiling specified, when the majority of Americans do not want the government to meddle in their health care?

And that was only one unconstitutional action of their that I listed?

The Electoral College protected us from Al Gore's silly environmental scare nonsense for a little while. Now your Messiah has got Crap&Trade passing through the bowels of the legislature, and that will triple people's electric bills - in a depression - and do nothing at all to limit CO2 emissions, which, by the way don't need to be limited anyway.

Can you point out the section of the Constitution that they were violating? By the way, I'm not a big fan of Obama so you can't use the "look how much your messiah sucks" thing on me.

And? What's your point? I still live in a free capitalist society, and I heard the same arguments against Clinton.

How so ?
What two ?
I think it should go, this college, but its proponents do present very good arguments in its favor..
Congress and our President do not need un-necessary distractions...
!00% must be the effort for the not so good state of our nation....repairs and improvements...

The person who the people want elected will be president instead of who the elitist want elected.

Article 1, Section 8 plus the Ninth and Tenth Amendments.

Yes they do. You can try and get all technical, but the electors from the states vote for who the people in the state vote for. Might as well finish the job right and just get rid of electors completely. As for my thoughts on Democracy, I agree with you. It's overrated. But if you are going to do it, just do it. The fact someone can get more votes and lose is nothing short of a total joke.

Oh.

So you're not in the United States, then. Good for you. Where is this "free capitalist" society you're referring to?
