Who is the best news caster right now?

Why?

I pick Hannity, Because Hannity has the knowledge of politics due to him being around it so much in his life.

Are you sure "Newscaster" is the correct word to be using here?

Walter Cronkite.

Even 6 feet under, he still better than the clowns that nance about on television today.

Those guys are not newscasters.Yeah they tell you the news but their jobs is political commentators.Usually the news the do bring you is the stuff the regular media tries to sweep under the run. As far as best television political commentator Glenn Beck is my favorite. My favorite political radio commentators is Glenn Beck and Michael Savage.

None of these people are newscasters. They are opinionaters and talking heads, but they do not report the news.

I liked Shepard Smith when I watched cable news. Now that I have country cable I'm stuck with Katie Couric.

Hannity
Glenn Beck
Bill O'reilly
Chris Matthews
Larry king
Aderson Cooper

NOT one of those you have listed is a "newscaster".

Besides, "best newscaster" is an oxyimoron.....emphsis on "moron".

I'm gonna go ahead and be one of those people who posts the definition of the word because "I think I'm so smart."

newscaster

n.

news analyst, commentator, broadcaster, anchor, anchorman, anchorwoman; see also reporter, writer.

(from yourdictionary.com)

Now whether you consider those people newscasters is all up to you. I'm not stating my opinion, I'm just the messenger.

I pick [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauren_Sanchez"]Lauren Sanchez[/ame]. :)

I like Diane Sawyer- alot. And unlike some of those other choices of "newscasters" she has actually interviewed some of the most important political figures of our time. She's smart, beautiful, and a great role model for women.

Anderson Cooper, he is the only one who attempts to be unbiased. As everyone else is clearly a partisan news reporter.

Walter Cronkite.

Amen, I am sure Edward R. Murrow is rolling in his grave as well looking at the state of the news today. Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O'reilly, Chris Matthews, Larry king, and Anderson Cooper are hardly "Newscasters". If anything I would say Anderson Cooper is probably the closest to even being a journalist out of that group. Larry King is an entertainment personality that interviews the celebs and newsmakers du jour.

I will say that CNN still has some good "journalists" out in the field like Michael Ware, who has done some damn good reporting in Iraq.

John Stewart.

Hannity is a hack. A partisan, polarizing, non-thinking, knee jerk reactionary who will say anything for ratings no matter how wrong he is about it. He's an idiot of the highest caliber and the second most dishonest "newscaster" on FOX news.

After hearing another misleading story about the proposed health care plan, I realized the problem I have with the political right is not their policies, some of which, like gun rights, I support very strongly. It is that their strategy for dealing with opposing viewpoints is not open debate (the American way), but instead to try to shut down debate (as we have seen at the protests at town hall meeting about health care) and flood the media with distortions and outright LIES! Here are just three fact checked examples for the last few days:

False Euthanasia Claims | FactCheck.org

Cash for Clunkers | FactCheck.org

CPR Administers Bad Facts, Again | FactCheck.org

I'm not sure what I think about the following organization because I haven't researched it well yet, but it is nice to see that others who see the problem are trying to do something about it:

What We Stand For | Save the News

I do think it is very dangerous to our democracy that blindly partisan ideologues are masquerading as Newsmen! Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh (just to name a few) are propaganda pushers, pretending to be Newscasters with the public's best interest at heart. To be fair, recently some have popped up on the left as well. Keith Olbermann and the rest of the MSNBC crowd are just as crappy "Non-News" as the Fox goons are. Don't get me wrong; I have no problem with these folks sharing their opinions and exercising their free speech. I just have a problem with them doing it while pretending to be newscasters. What scares me is that FOX and MSNBC are the two most popular news sources!

I really think this is one of the biggest problems facing our country today.

Hannity: Wants to project fairness and objectivity, but really is nothing more then a guy who knows very little but talks with confidence as though he does.

Glenn Beck: A comedian and entertainer, nows even less then Hannity and is a outright lair.

Bill O'reilly: Sometimes has some sort of objectivity, but is so impressed with himself that he does himself an immence injustice.

Chris Matthews: hard hitting :3oops:In terms of making simple non important questions seem like the work of a genius, but really he is a two bit hack.

Larry king: Paparazi enthusiast who is senile

Aderson Cooper: had great potential but soldout during Anna nicholes death

We have very few real newscasters with any integrity left.

Jim Lehrer would have to be the best Newscaster.

I pretty much agree with your assessment of these people. Biggest problem I have of late with Chris Matthews is that he simply does not let people respond. He does play hardball (pun intended) with everyone to answer the question that was asked, yet more and more I have noticed he just talks over people, as if he has lost interest in actually listening to anyone. I don't remember him ever being this obnoxious.

And Anderson Cooper did have potential, but went down the drain with CNN in their "Missing white girl of the week" obsessions, and tabloid round the clock coverage of people that warranted no more than a minute (Anna Nicole, Michael Jackson...). They, CNN, cut Aaron Brown for one reason, and that was to have the more telegenic Cooper, which is shameful.

Commonality between CNN, FOX, and MSNBC (and CNBC) is that they have 24 hours to fill up, with most often only 2 hours of news. CNN use to be good to watch because outside of the 2 hours of news they would actually report on other stories that were not headlines, stories from around the globe. Not any more. Thankfully BBC and NPR have not completely sold out.

Jim Lehrer=PBS

I think by default 90% of Americans do not know he exists. 8% probably think he is some Muppet.
