Michael Jackson, because out of these 2 men, I only listen to MJ.
That's awefully bigotted. I listen to neither so to be fair.

To answer who was more popular it has to be Michael Jackson.
1- Because of modern day accomplishments like the computer, Michael has a much wider world audience.
2- Michael also performed in many more countrys than Elvis did.

Whos singing do I like?
Elvis.
Although Michaels song 'Ben' stands out to me.

I agree about #2. While MJ and Elvis might have had comparable levels of fame in the United States, that is not true worldwide. Even people in poor African cities have heard of Michael Jackson, whereas (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) it is my understanding that Elvis was never really popular outside of the Anglosphere.

I have to go with MJ on this one, since his material was original. Elvis sang material chosen for him that was stolen from black artists. An example is Hound Dog, which was written and performed by Big Mama Thornton before the record company made a lot of money from it by giving it to Elvis and targeting a white audience.

Depends on who you're asking. I've met young people who didn't know who The Beatles were.

eek, it hurts just to write it...

I think MJ is more famous now than Elvis was when he died, and like Elvis, I predict that MJ will make more money in death then he did while alive.

Right here right now, there is no other Jesus I'd rather be?

Well, I certainly hope you wouldn't want to be the other one. I hear things kind of went awry there at the end, ya know.

Elvis was a god, Jackson was just some freak that made lame pop.

No one had a better voice than Michael when he was just a kid.
Sad that his Mom gave him hormone shots to try and keep his voice the same.
That i believe screwed him up.
Just look at him then and now.

Lame Pop?
For starters:
Did you ever listen to his song 'Ben'?

This is an unfairly subjective question because the answer varies based on the generation in which a person was born.

There are some people, like myself, who legitimately like both; however, most folks are one or the other.

It's hard to say who the bigger star was.

I believe it's a tie.

MJ probably has more fans who are still alive.

Elvis wasn't just a pop singer he was the icon of post-war integration and social change. Elvis was the first crack in the wall of social conformity and tradition. He brought sex, danger and black culture into the sterile post-war suburbs.

Elvis gave Mick Jagger his saunter, Iggy Pop his swagger, Sid Vicious his sneer and Kurt Cobain his intensity. He gave rock its sex, style, rebellion and attitude. First wave Rockabilly was the era of rock, everything else has essentially been a rehash.

Michael Jackson made tame pop music.

Don't knock Michael Jackson. He gave a lot to charitable causes. For example: He made a lot of money doing that Pepsi commercial, and the proceeds went to the Ignited Negro College Fund.

MJ has more musical ability and talent in his dried-up dead toenail than Elvis had in his whole body. Elvis was a product of marketing and a beneficary of convenient timing. I don't think he knew more than 3 or 4 chords on a guitar and any vocalist in the top 40 on American Idol, year after year, can shame Elvis vocally. Elvis' "dance" moves were simply embarassing.

But.................

Elvis was Elvis. 'Nuff said?

PS... to answer the thread topic. Nationally, I gotta give it to Elvis. In 30 years, that might change.

Internationally, it's MJ hand's down.
