I think it's a fascinating thing that over half of the voters in this poll are non-religious.
It shows that religion grows weaker and weaker with the years.

Well, at least among those with an access to the internet.

no, i dont think that religion is weak. i think this show that some religion are weak but othre religion get more people.

In the Western world, religion gets weaker and weaker with the years, and more and more people choose atheism.

Of course that in the Muslim world they just get more and more followers, but that was not my point.

Well, I was baptized a Presbyterian, then raised in a Reform Church for a few years. Then went to a Covenant Church (not like on Halo, guys :/ ), then a Lutheran, and then ended at a Presbyterian, once again. But I stopped going to church in 2007. I was losing interest and having too many doubts; so thus I became non-denominational for a short time. But before this time, as some of you on here may remember (Just look at some of my previous 2,000 posts on this site; more in particularly in the religion threads) I was a "right-wing, Christian Conservative.

Well, just this last December I had decided to become Agnostic, almost borderline Atheist. I may become an Atheist, but first I'm looking into Astrotheology and Naturalistic Spiritualism; which sounds like early Colonial Deism (What Thomas Paine was, pretty much). But I'm just looking into those right now, not really latching on, though. Most likely I'll end up being an Atheist, just for complete lack of hard evidence for anything else. It's just that I look around at everything and think to myself "Wow, if a god does exist, then it's a real malevolent bastard."

I feel its possible for a god (or gods) to exist.

I recognize that hard evidence of a god is impossible shy from him appearing before us all himself.

I also recognize that holy scriptures and manuscripts religious in nature have been changed and modified over time to fit the political goals of those in power, thus I can't rightly bring myself to believe in worshiping as set forth by any particular religious text as the "word of god".

I remember talking to you on here back when you were a hardcore christian, and I have noticed the different before now and was extremely surprised by your change in belief.

I've been researching, and I've read some books and pages written/researched by D.M. Murdock (aka Acharya S). One book in particular that stands out is Who Was Jesus? Fingerprints Of The Christ. She uses logic, education and the words of the Church Fathers/Founders/Evangelists themselves to prove that Christianity was just a fabrication. The back of the book is also chock full of citations and legitimate sources. Murdock's words were the final nails in my Christian Coffin. And I'm glad to be shed of the Abramaic religions.

Yeah, but Atheism is clearly on the raise and will continue to raise with the years.
There's hope for a better future. :2razz:

Perhaps
If Sweden is anything to go by in what we can look forward to =D

Dam good thing you don't live in most Muslim countries.

I can't do without the west no.
But i suppose i could handle living in Turkey, or Dubai, Bosnia, Azerbaijan :2razz:

I'm not shamanist, I'm semi-pagan. I'm prone to drinking too much and dancing naked in the moonlight.

No I was talking of myself, but its good to see Pagans making a comeback!

I think people are pushed out from spirituality by the orthodoxy and rigdit control of the organized and for profit religions. I hope people can be talked into being open to the hidden world, a world that is both hidden by the imposters who claim to know Gods will, and many Arrogant scientists who think they know all there is to know.

I too am a Unitatain. It is the best thing that has ever happened to me. In our church you will be excepted for who you are and it doesn't matter what that is. We are responsible to ourselves and no one else for what religion we decide to follow and also it we do not follow a religion or:2wave: if we are Agnostic or Atheist. All religinon are taugh and beliefs also. Tis week serenity prayer is going to be stuidied.

It's hard to type after that fourth martini, isn't it?

I'm just yankin' yer chain, no meanness intended.

The OP really shouldn't have put Unitarian under "Christian" though.

Goshin, I got a laugh about the martini's. I'm glad to know you have a great sense of humor. I didn't understand what you ment about the OP shouldn't have been put Unitarian under Christian. Also I'm confused about how to reply directly to someones comment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Im more agnostic.

I believe that there may be a diety (or multiple), but I disagree that our current religious institutions are doing the right thing when it comes to having faith in them.

Nor can I continue to follow age old man made religious texts that most likely have changed over time for the political convenience of select power groups.
Read the Book of Revelation. To some extent Jesus agrees with you.

I believe and try to follow the straight and narrow path my God laid out. That God is Jesus Christ. I don't give a rat's rear end what anyone else follows. That's your problem.

Replying directly is, as far as I know, just a matter of quoting someone's post like you did... that removes any doubt about who you're replying to in a crowded thread.

As for Unitarian not fitting under Christian...

It is my understanding that the Unitarian church is a sort of "multifaith" institution that does not exclusively practice or exclusively beleive in Christianity, but rather is open to anything from Islam to Cao Dai. In that sense I would have to view it as not being Christian per se, any more than it is Islamic per se or Zarathustran per se.

However, I don't claim to be expert on Unitarianism, all I know is what Unitarians have told me.

Goshin, You are right and very well informed about the Unitarian church. Christianity is only one of the many faiths we practice. Most people don't even know who Unitarians are.

Thanks so much for answering my post and for your help.
