Yeah, I personally don't understand the fascination with famous people. I guess I did post once about how he sucked, though.

The thread getting so much attention didn't bother me as much as every TV news station refusing to talk about anything else for 3 days, because then I have to find something else to look at while I eat.

Its the liberal media airing the stories they want to air as usual. For example barely known or unknown republican engages in adultery and the media is all over that story like a fat chick with a crate of twinkles but if its any democrat no matter how well known he might get a days mention heck they might spin it if it is a gay affair.

There are no jokes for me to make in the Iran threads, but I'm having a blast making fun of Michael Jackson.

It is sad but thats one of the things that makes me want to talk about him.

Is it just me or is it sad that the Michael ****ing Jackson thread has more hits than the Iran threads?

Well, now that the protests have been mostly squashed, they just aren't as big of news as they were a couple weeks ago.

And while I'll be the first to agree that the news networks do usually spend too much time talking about celebrities, this one is a bit different. He had a HUGE impact on music. He's a lot more comparable to John Lennon than he is to Anna Nicole Smith.

Funniest post ever! Great job with it, I almost thought you where serious a minute.

How is what I said not true? John Edwards only got a day or two mention and that governor who had a homosexual affair story was spun into "oh he is such a brave man for coming out of the closet".

They talked about Edwards for a week. Elizabeth was on Oprah, like last week due to her book on the whole matter. It just feels like it is longer coverage to you on GOP screw-ups because you are Republican and want it to go away.

I do think it is time for Jackson coverage to go away, or at least be minimized. Enough is enough already.

Let's see....Iran demonstrates the incompetence of the Messiah, Micheal Jackson feeds the hero worshipping masses of Messiah zealots insatiable need for hero worship and adulation.

The rest of us release what Micheal Jackson is, a dead singer/dancer who was past his prime and whose personal life choices so clouded his image that the glory could not be found beyond the shattered little boys.

Besides, the death of MJ was fortuitous for the media, who certainly don't want to cover boring stories about ACORN or how Senator Danny Inoue made some phone calls and voila, his bank got TARP money.

I mean, what would happen to the Left Wing power structure if the media didn't have empty fluffy stories to air all the time and focused on the harm the socialists are doing to America?

That's bull**** and you know it James.

Edwards had to quit the race because the affair was being televised on every major-network for weeks.

Our current little fiasco with the Governor of South Carolina is not only because he was a primary suspect for a G.O.P candidate, but that the news networks are patting them selves on the back for being correctly suspecting.

The day before the big news release that he was banging some Argentinean the networks had him in the headlines. They knew that it was either going to turn out to be that he was dead, on the Appalachian Trails, or in some sort of scandal.

The networks look to make mad-bank off of the misfortunes of others. The only bias (for the networks) depends on the crowd they are catering to.

I don't know if it's so much that the liberal media is being easy on democratic politicians so much as democratic politicians doing it is less hypocritical. Social conservatism + hiring hooker = WTF mate?

Of course.

The media wanted to sling mud, it was an election year, but they didn't want to sling mud at the black guy or the broad, who were their favorites.

Well, possibly. I think the media was blowing it up because the dumb ass did vanish for days, but if he wasn't a Republican they would have dropped it already.

They would drop it, if he would just shut the ****-up!!!!

The factual part has already been taken care of, and was not what I was thinking of. The first part that made it funny is how often the right jump on the "liberal media" bandwagon. It's especially funny in this case because FOX news, the conservative media outlet, jumped on the Michal Jackson bandwagon along with every one else. Why is it every time something negative happens to republicans, or a republican, it is always the left wing media's fault? What ever happened to personal responsibility?

What makes it especially funny in this case is that using the "liberal media" as a reason that the Michael Jackson threads got more views than the Iran threads on this board is a total non sequitar. What makes it even funnier is that more people on this board identify themselves as conservative than liberal, and yet this is somehow the work of the liberals.

The last thing that makes it funny is I think I was the first person to bitch about the overdone media coverage of Jackson, and I am a liberal, and yet it is still all the fault of liberals.

Liberals seem to be your boogeyman, that you pull out to blame everything on. When in doubt, it's liberals, or the liberal media.

Not a chance, not when the alternative is discussing how we're being screwed by the Messiah and his Crap&Trade nonsense.

I just hope to God that the Senate stops this bill. There are far better ways to curb pollution without fleecing the Middle Class.

The goal of this bill is to fleece the middle class.

CO2 isn't a pollutant.

The earth is cooling, not warming.

The Al Franken Senate won't stop this, they'll add more pork.

Destruction of the nation's healthcare industry is next.

Same thing with the T.V. news networks it's freaking ridiculous.

Iran is Iran's problem.

Web slows after Jackson's death
By Maggie Shiels
Technology reporter, BBC News, Silicon Valley

The internet suffered a number of slowdowns as people the world over rushed to verify accounts of Michael Jackson's death.

Search giant Google confirmed to the BBC that when the news first broke it feared it was under attack.

Millions of people who searched for the star's name on Google News were greeted with an error page.

It warned users "your query looks similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware application".

"It's true that between approximately 2.40PM Pacific and 3.15PM Pacific, some Google News users experienced difficulty accessing search results for queries related to Michael Jackson and saw the error page," said Google spokesman Gabriel Stricker.

It was around this time that the singer was officially pronounced dead.

Google's trends page showed that searches for Michael Jackson had reached such a volume that in its so called "hotness" gauge the topic was rated "volcanic".

The BBC news website reported that traffic to the site at the time of Jackson's death was 72% higher than normal.

I complained to BBC and it has had alot of complaints over the BBC coverage - So much so that it has finally gone sane again and stopped with it.

Can't say i'm begging for more Iran on my news but i'd rather domestic issues and Afghanistan is focused on especially with Brown screwing up again and a major offensive starting in Afghanistan against the Taliban

Who hired a hooker?

Not a specific example. Honestly, I make an effort not to know about famous people. I guess I could've said: Social conservative + Immoral conduct = hypocrite, but I was being goofy I guess.
