Cost is a poor justification against it. It cost us more to switch from leaded to unleaded gasoline, but the reduction in lead exposure was tremendous as were the associated declines in health related costs and environmental costs.
If cost is such a poor justification, why do you offer up a justification based on cost?

Ever heard of the Patriot Act?;)

German's compare the 9/11 event and the Patriot Act, to the enactment of their decree "For the Protection of the People and the State". Which was pushed through after the scheme of the "Reichstag Fire", Burning of the Parliment in Berlin.

The fire was contrived by the newly formed Nazi government itself to turn public opinion and to "Assume Emergency Powers"!

This was the key event to establish Nazi Dictatorship

The Patriot Act was pushed through just after 9/11 as an emergency bill which gave the Presidential Seat enormous powers toward dictatorship"

The Presidential Seat now has complete control of the Strongest Military in the world and Congress is a moot point in decisions on when to use it!

Now anyone can be arrested and detained FOREVER by just saying they are a suspected terrorist! The arrested person now does not have a right to DUE PROCESS OF THE LAW!!!

Many more "emergency" bills were attempted to be shoved through congress just after 9/11 which would have made us even more closer to Dictatorship.

And that is the case with Cap and Trade as well. Congress did not read it and are willing to pass this and hurt the economy and the people needlessly. I think that we all need to do our part to protect the planet, but there could certainly be better legislation than this!

Many in Europe have been saying for a few years now that it seems as if our American government is taking steps to "intentionally" collapse our economy...

It would appear so. I think our engagement of China has done more to destroy us than any war ever could. It is time we started looking to the future, instead of a few feet ahead of our noses. The U.S. is declining and nations such as China, India, and even Brazil are on the rise!

Perhaps we should place a minimum I.Q. limit to have a decision making seat in this country..:doh

I think you are right. Unfortunately, elections are popularity contests now days. Perhaps it is time for one of those revolutions, Jefferson prescribed.;)

The important part to remember is how much more polution EU, USA and other developed countries in the world.

Sentence fragment without verb.

That if India and China just got half the CO2/emission per capita the world would be really screwed even if you didn't belive in main made global warming, because their are not enough oil and coal, to support that demand.

"there is", not "their are".

Also, the free market will control the demand of fossil fuels, not something we need to worry about, we've got trillions of barrels of reserves in the ground under our feet.

That an important part for EU and USA is to lead the way and give opportunities for China and India to don't make the same mistake as us.

The only mistake the US has made was to become socialist and elect spineless pansies who wet their pants over non-existent ecological crises that wouldn't become important until a hundred years from now even if they were actually happening, which they aren't.

If we can get China to make that mistake, we're doing damned good.

Can you explain why all the stupid people are worried about an ecological disaster that won't happen?

Many in America have been saying the same thing. Those of us that have didn't vote for the Messiah or his party.

If they keep tightening the noose on us with every petty law they can shoehorn in something may give.....I hear talk from a LOT of people that are starting to have some deep resentment in this country...

After alot of thought and a lot of reading I still dont support cap and trade. I see only two real reasons for it.

1. Government control of industry.
2. Taxes.

It has nothing (imo) to do with the enviroment. Take this example: A large corporation that supplies 80% of Missouri with electricity suddenly reaches there cap. They have one of three options, first being to purchase more CO2 allowance from the Fed, second trade with another company, third stop supplying electricity to millions of needing customers. The government isnt going to allow millions of people to go without power if no CO2 is available for the company to trade so they will simply sell them more (perhaps with a fine). So in the end we have not capped any CO2 production but instead only charged them for conducting buisness.

I think that if it were truly about the enviroment they would simply "cap" allowed CO2 and not have the sell/trade issue.

This is a defacto tax on those making less than 200k a year.

Think about it. who is paying more, who is recieving money when this nonsense goes into play.

F Obama.

Cap and Trade will put the greatest burden on the poor: as a percent of household income, the average burden will be
6.2% for the bottom quintile,
3.2% for the second quintile,
2.4% for the middle quintile,
2.0% for the fourth quintile, and
1.4% for the highest quintile.

The economic impact is calculable. The environmental impact is not.

you think that is bad, you should do a breakdown of "sin tax"

The biggest tax increase in the world to solve a problem that may or may not be solvable and that may or may not be happening. It is completely undefensible and rash! This is what is happening. Links to the data/proof can be found at this web site.

Temperatures are in decline
Polar ice extent is near normal
The oceans are cooling
There are fewer violent storms
Solar activity is changing

Besides, trees love CO2.

For all you guys who bought houses which were built before "Green" certification, good luck when you go to sell, because you're in for a nice little surprise.

And if even if you built a house recently that's up to "Green" standards (as I did), well, the whim of Washington bureaucrats being what they are, you may well be in for that surprise as well . . .

Do You Support "Cap and Trade?"

This past Friday, the House of Representitives voted in favor of the controversial bill called "Cap and Trade." Eight Republicans voted for it--enough to get it through.

Neal Boortz calls it "The greatest tax increase in American history." It will cost trillions of dollars.

How do you like it? Vote.

I am sure others have pointed this out, Anything that cost companies more money cost us more money because those companies just as they do with everything else pass those cost to the consumer. So Boortz is right it is a tax increase that most Americans will pay.

These cap and trade morons are like the twits who think somehow fines were hurting big tobacco, when in reality big tobacco around that time owned Kraft and other food and beverage brands. So it wasn't big tobacco who was paying the fines it was the person buying the cheese, milk, cereal, and other foods and beverages.Companies pass the cost of doing business onto the consumer.
