Fixing california

What should be done to fix California

I hate to be rude to you Californians but this is what I want to happen.

There will be no change in behavior unless punishment is dealt to all those whose brought this on themselves.

Who do you count as "brought this on themselves"? And don't you think the implosion of the largest state, both in terms of population and economy, will effect you too?

The voters and their elected officials brought this on themselves in imo.

It has effected me in a positive way thus far, my company just closed their last plant in California. That guarantees me work all through the summer and beyond.

By doing what, exactly?

I'm sure it'll have bigger effects than just that

By doing what, exactly?

Your state is spending too much and receiving too little.

With the cost of living and operating a business in Cali is extremely high compared to other states raising taxes would be a horrible thing to do.

I'd suggest they cut spending on nearly everything.

I'm sure it'll have bigger effects than just that

I can't think of anything that involves my job or my home that has anything to do with California.
I'm sure that there may be some minor things I have over looked but it bothers me more that your state politicians may get away with their terrible behavior.

A lesson needs to be taught, too many taxes and spending too much will crash an economy.

California was lied to and has been lied to over a decade and betrayed over five years. Californians voted based upon our best idea of the information at the time.

Stop being so materialistic. A government immune from counteraction will never improve on its own. You are allowing severe abuses and withdrawals of freedoms.

People allow themselves to be deceived.

The information is always available but if all you do is listen to political talking points, it proves that your a gigantic idiot (not you specifically).

I do not believe that this case fits your sociological header.

What do you mean?

I do not believe that reasonable people could have seen through enough to neutralize Arnold's campaign rhetoric, nor do I believe that reasonable people could have done most of what was necessary to change the basic outcome of the political process for the last 5 years. It was a plain deception.

They could have but your average voter doesn't usually research past campaign rhetoric, so what do you expect?

As the old saying goes, you reap what you sow.

While it's nice to talk about what should be done, the simple fact is that there isn't anything can be done. So much of the basic financial problems are untouchable, we have massive bond issues that have driven us into bankruptcy, we have ridiculous union contracts that are completely untouchable, we have an initiative process that lets a simple majority vote in massive new spending that cannot be undone by law. etc. While a lot of those ideas would be great once we get out from under the huge debt we're currently in, unless we can do that, they're all pointless. The damage is already done and cannot easily be undone. We need a bankruptcy of some sort that can free us from those obligations, even for a little while, so we can get the rest of our financial house in order.

The best thing we can do, to be honest, is to get serious redistricting done so that every district is in contention and the legislature can stop appealing to a tiny minority of voters on a minuscule number of issues because they know that their districts are entirely safe. Even now, when we're $26 billion in the hole, Democratic legislators want to spend another $30 billion frivilously and tax the hell out of voters to pay for it.

It's insane, but I don't think there's the will in the state to stop it. It's been a disaster for far too long. A real fix would require a Constitutional Convention to fix our inherently broken State Constitution and get rid of the ridiculous Initiative process. That won't happen either.

A real fix comes from the people and their pressure. Constitutional Conventions are dollhouse tea parties for political insiders. Nothing will be changed.

They thought all this nonsense was a good idea, and think more of it is the way to go.

The problem is, they vote in politicians who are entirely in the pocket of the state unions, you cannot get elected as a Democratic candidate in this state without being on the take from the unions and getting elected as a Republican, except in a few protected districts, is very difficult because you're fighting all that union money. So who is putting all the ads on television and the radio? The beholden Democrats. Who is pushing heavily for most of the liberal-slanted bond issues? The beholden Democrats. It's not really a surprise that people vote for things that are constanly being pushed and since there are no laws requiring these political hacks to tell the truth, lies abound.

Yes, ultimately it's the fault of the people for voting these morons in and not understanding the impact that their vote has on bond issues, but you have to place the blame where it also lies, with the liberal political hacks on the take.

Which is why we need that bankruptcy and hopefully a massive criminal investigation of our legislators to clear out the political hacks first, then we can work on rewriting our Constitution into something useful. The first thing we ought to require is a Government Accountability Office to make sure we're not wasting our money. California is the only state in the nation without one.

What makes you think that every single politician is corrupt and needs to go. there's some good people there, just trying to do what they think is right.

Not really. The Democrats are all corrupt and the California Republican Party offered up the three votes that they needed to pass the biggest tax increase in the history of America by party decree. They put up people who they felt were either defensible or termed out so it didn't matter about the backlash, but it was a party-wide decision.

They're all corrupt and need to go.

That is why I say let it crash, the punishment that will be dealt with swift harshness.

And the particular Republicans are just as bad.

The first thing we have to do is destroy union power. THAT is the first thing we have to do. Second is we have to cut spending on all expenditures relating to illegal immigration.

Yep. It was physically and methodically choreographed. Even Chuck Devore deserves an olive.

Cut spending back to match revenue.
The idea that certain spending cannot be cut or that certain services cannot denied is unsupportable.

Have it declare bankruptcy, reorganize the state govt with 1/3 the original politicians, and 2/3 the original govt workers, only 1% of the illegal aliens and 5% of the original welfare recipients.
Give illegal aliens a one way non-refundable bus ticket out of the country.
Give workfare to the welfare recipients who are able to work....minimum of 25 hours a week doing whatever little jobs need to be done.

Perhaps the Lex Luther proposal will work.

Kill 2 birds with one stone, and create a reality TV Terminator show.

Give illegal aliens a one way non-refundable bus ticket out of the country.

"Por que son blanco y negro estos autobuses?" Jose said to Jose as he was placed in handcuffs.
