Federal or State Government?

Which governmental system would you prefer?

America was founded as a collection of independent states (nations).
Ya know, I'm about as individualistic as they come.

Even my individualistic and occasionally churlish and acerbic self knows that the 13 original states intended to work together at this whole nation building thing. Most of the states are still pretty keen on the concept.

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

How you get from "more perfect Union" to every state for itself is unfathomable to me.
 
I'm willing to bet that if you asked Americans which they identified as first, a resident of their state or a resident of their country, at least 90% of them would answer that they are Americans before anything else. And I am one of that 90%.

That said, I do believe that government gets more efficient as it gets smaller and more localized, so I think the states should hold a lot of power, but I don't think they should be their own countries.

Otherwise , no vote..
The poll is too restrictive...
And the poll originator's agenda should be known..
 
One only has to read of the extreme rules city councils like to impose and consider some of the extreme state laws of various states to opt towards the feds.
