Hi All,

Just wonder how many of us actually use any form of Mass Transet be it the Bus systrem,Train,Light Rail or Rail.

I my self use the Rail system to get to and from work I live in Baltimore and ride the train to DC everyday. In general I try to us the Mass system if I can.

PS Mods could you add the poll for some reason it didn't work

And no, I do not use mass transit for anything.

I live in the Bay Area, so I take BART every now and again. I mostly do it to avoid parking, avoid traffic, and have the freedom to get drunk.

If you mean public transportation then no I do not use it. I drive a car and before I drove I used my bike. I would rather ride a bicycle for 30-40 minutes in a hundred degree heat(which I have lots of times) than take public transportation. Public transportation in my town sucks ass. For example If you wanted to go to the mall and you lived on the north side of town and the mall is on the south side of town you would be looking spending a 1/6 to 1/4 of your day maybe more waiting for the bus, transferring to another bus and riding the bus. Most people in my city drive so it would be idiotic to have a subway or passenger train service.

I live in Dallas so mass transit is not really an option for me. In NYC I rode the eubway everyday though.

Included in my school's tuition is unlimited use of Pittsburgh's bus system, so I use it constantly.

I use the "tube" whenever I can.

No, but I should think about using it. I'm right on the bus route and it goes to the movie theater and mall.

I live out in the country, so it's not a real option for me.

I don't and it's not really an option. In fact, every time I've looked into using some form of public transportation for doing anything, it's turned out to be more expensive, less convenient and more distasteful than just getting in my car and driving somewhere. I suppose it's fine if you live in a big city, but I detest big cities and would never live in one.

You mean the city won't build a track to your house just for you? How un-American.

When I lived in CA I used buses and BART all the time. It was faster, cheap[er and easier than private transportation.

Now, in SD, I can't wait for a bus to show up and take it's time wandering across town. I thing mass transit only works for big populations.

I would rather hang out with David Carradine than sit on a putrid hot train next to a sweaty dude who smells like onion while the drunk a few feet away is getting ready to hurl. There's no cost too high for avoiding that nightmare.

Get it? "Hang" out with David Carradine :2wave:

Carpooling is encouraged here and we have a Metro bus and light rail system, but more could be done to accommodate those of us who don't live within the city limits. We do have a decent system of dedicated High Occupancy Vehicle lanes on the freeways that connect to outlying Park and Ride stations, and that does help.

I don't use the bus or rail systems because I like the freedom of being able to come and go according to my schedule rather than the bus schedule.

What, when I have a perfectly good gas guzzler? Dealing with those people on the road is bad enough, at least I can't smell them.

Take the subway on the daily. Much quicker/cheaper than any other method of getting to work.

Transit

I drive to work. I have cheap parking and until the RCMP/City cops start enforcing the HOV/Bus lanes on the interprovincial bridges, it's zippity quick too.

Yes and no. When I'm in a city with mass transit, I use it. I have metro/bus passes from most major cities and keep them in a separate wallet for when I travel. Because I'm disabled, I can usually get an even better deal. The one exception is DC. A friend has a car rental service and gets HOT if I don't use his service when there. He gives me a great deal though, better then cabbies and is only a phone call away.

Where I live, the tribes have various buses for the different departments who will pick up clients and transport you pretty much anywhere if you call and notify them 24 hours ahead. I still have to drive 10 miles to get to a pick up point. One of the downsides of living in the boonies at the end of the dirt road!

No, public transportation here sucks. I drive to work but live within a 6 block radius of shopping, food, park, bars, mom, and $1 theater. No need for public transportation there when I can walk.

The only mass transit we have here is a crappy bus line... so no. Plus I live out in the country.
Even when I lived in the OC/LA area, I didn't since it was not as practical...
when I lived in Napa/Russian River and we went ot San Fran a ton... I would park and then use BART/Buses/or Cable Cars for the day... or just walk and get great exercise...
Here though, it is all so damn close that I can walk or bike to the beach, stores, firehouse, etc.

I take the metro rail about 4 times a week. Mostly to avoid traffic and such.

I have never used mass transit. The biggest bus I was ever on was was when the police haul hundreds of us away in NYC back in 70.
