Many of us have been asking for something like this since we first noticed that the regular "thanks" option was unavailable in the Basement shortly after it's introduction to DP.

We understand that a distinction needs to be made between supporting well thought out and civil debate and entertaining smack, so what is proposed here is a separate "thanks" system which will only be enabled in the basement.

I invite you to express your support or objection to this idea, or introduce an alternative.

Yes. Definitely a good idea.
 
The idea of something to acknowledge quality smack is intriguing. The idea of "thanking" somebody for smack is a wee bit disturbing to me. Ultimately, that's just a semantics quibble.

I like it, just don't call it "thanks".

What could we call it then? I believe vauge can name it anything he wants.

If the Tavern had a separate 'thanks' system we might call it "cheers", but what would be appropriate for the basement?

On a related note, it's worth pointing out that smack in the Tavern is 'thanked', so this is already occurring. See the Ask The Bartender forum for examples.

Don't know, exactly. I just have a visceral negative reaction to a "thanks" feature in the basement. "Good smack", perhaps?
 
We should call the Basement thanks "street cred". I've always wanted to have the most street cred.
 
Nah, hell it’s the basement, don’t need a thanks button; give us a sucks button instead. ;)

Most threads eventually devolve into conversations that could be had with a Thanks, a The Suck, and a Suck Up button anyway. :lol:

You know people said that about the 'thanks' feature in use now before vauge installed it.

Things didn't turn out that way.

Just remember that whatever a 'basement thanks' is called will be displayed under everyone's avatar upstairs, so the name has to be 'family friendly'.
