Living out in the boondocks, we need to prepare for loss of power. The last time it was 6 days before power was restored. Regardless, it makes sense.

I had a gasoline fueled generator, used it so rarely that it was hard to start when I needed it.
There are some new propane powered ones on the market that should be easier to deal with. No liquid fuel deposits to gum up the carburetor.

OTOH, I have used a shot of propane to get a gas generator started. Works as well as the ether based starters....

...like replacing the batteries in the smoke alarms, the generator has to have regular testing....

which most of us won't do...

I have found that if you coincide the daylight saving time dates, checking generators, replacing smoke alarm batteries, fire extinguishers...makes it a little easier to remember....

I hear the the detectors should be replaced every 5 years as well....

Most of you seem to be more concerned about natural disasters than the likleyhood of an economic and social collapse like the one that hit Zimbabwe not long ago.

I pray it never happens, but with the massive spending, huge indebtedness and disregard for Constitutional rights, the future does not look bright.

Gaddy is a fear monger....
we are not having an economic and social collapse here, but it is an economic downturn.
Being prepared should be about this situation as well. One thing I read recently was some other fear monger saying that we are 3 meals away from a revolution. Certainly we should have some extra food stored for when the trucks stop running and the stores run out of food. I have no idea how the people in metropolitan areas will survive, as most of them shop often due to not having space to store much food.
It is one thing to try to prepare for likely disasters, job loss, individual economic downturns, etc. but quite another to prepare for chaos. IMO, chaos will not happen any time soon, but job loss IS happening and it is good to have extra food on hand for that situation alone....and extra savings as well. Suzie Ormond has advice on that, something about 6 months of income stashed in savings. After the last year, I am thinking 6 months may not be enough....not a week goes by that I don't hear about some friend or neighbor back in AZ losing their job.

My preparation and the training for the strays has all been about natural disasters, including a worldwide pandemic.

According to the Council of Foreign Relations, 40% of Americans have a survivalist mindset.

A sizable number of people are stockpiling for hard times in the near future. Many are fearing food shortages, power outages, water and energy shortages, bank closures, massive crime, and runaway inflation.

One comment: "What's motivating this is sheer terror over the new administration."

Economic crisis spurs spike in 'suburban survivalists'

So the question is: Are you getting prepared for hard times? Or are you not worried and think these fears are exaggerated?

It's all about seeing the signs... the signs show that we are headed for a major depression because we are production is all but shipped over-seas (thanks to globalization / Nafta/gatt/ etc) so we are spending our way into oblivion.

Next, the central banks around the world have their printing presses running red to keep up with things floating, so once all this currency makes it into circulation with the lack of production to back it up... there is guaranteed to be a measure of inflation rate increasing.

Also, the public is starting to be sold on the idea of rounding up homeless and placing them in 'camps' (cal-expo in california)

An overall checklist would include
- a weapon
- food
- water / water filters
- barter items
- transportation
- A safe place

That said, is it better to be prepared for the worst and not need it, or to need these things but not having them.

I’ll just wait for the FEMA camp to take care of me.

I prefere to wait and to looking what will happend.

This guy seems to think so
The time for talk is over. Any further delays in implementing self-protecting plans for families, neighbourhoods, adjacent farms and ranches are unwise, self-defeating, and potentially disastrous. Further enumeration of the historical failures and the successful plots against freedom, liberty, personal and national sovereignty are a waste of time. Everyone who already knows the reasons for our current state of emergency, are crystal clear as to their origins and the implications for all Republic loving individuals.

I dont agree with him though

Regarding the OP...

The Council on Foreign Relations are a bunch of rich, elitist, banker thugs who are the reason why the economy tanked in the first place. It was they who wanted the creation of the Federal Reserve and the ability to fabricate money where assets do not exist.

I don't believe a single word they say about anything. If they're feeding you this 40% story it's because it suits their agenda. Trying to instill a lack of faith in the economy is the primary agenda. A crash means they get to re-invent the system to their advantage.

Just in case the fear mongers are right, I have laid in a supply of Obama Biden signs and bumper stickers for me and my family and friends.

For those I don't like, they get the McCain Palin stickers stuck on their cars...:2razz:

Tell me, what is more fear mongering :

A) Hey, it's looking like we're heading towards a depression over the next few years, and you might do good to stock up on some nexessities to help you ride out the rough times... let's hope we don't need it ... OR

B) OMG THERE'S A NEW SWINE FLU IN MEXICO... It's killed 2 people but we need to classify it as a global pandemic and shut down our cities but not the borders cause it's too late for that but it will kill us all if you don't take your government sponsored flu vaccine... and if it doesn't kill us this time it will come back in the fall and will kill 99% of everyone if we don't sign our lives away....

C. both A and B

C. both A and B

I could accept that answer if you can elaborate how they are both fear-mongering??

Cause from my view a is a sensible warning where b is threatening (as in you'll die if you don't do something)
