Clinton had high approval ratings, but they didn't help Gore, nor did the tech bubble/economy stupid.
Look at the opponent Bush had. John Kerry was as sad a candidate as McCain. We were at war, Kerry didn't offer any solutions.
Come the 2012 election, Obama will have to defend his record, something he didn't have, or didn't have to do the first time around.
Hope. Change. Unite. You drones... isn't going to work the second time.
If the R's can set up structures so they nominate their own candidate, without the aid of D's and I's. Then we should do OK.
McCain is a war hero, but as a presidential candidate showed little fighting spirit, little willingness to exploit Obama's numerous and serious weaknesses.
Hell, Geraldine Ferraro and Joe Biden were more critical about Obama than McCain.
I have to laugh at anyone who thinks his stewardship will improve things; just look at what he's doing. Spending bajillions (where has the money gone and why is there no stimulus from the spending?), cutting the military, having sought GI's to pay their own healthcare, dictating to industries, taking over industries, telling people where they should and should not travel, a Supreme Court nominee that believes the bench is where you should make law, their endless warnings of what we should and should not talk about, and then comes the complete perversion of healthcare and immigration reform.
That's going to be a target rich environment in 2012.
