In Which Case Would You Rather Have an AK-47?

Which jobs does an AK-47 do better?

I'd prefer the AK if I was fending off a zombie invasion.

Incorrect choice! You are now a Zombie.

Remember that Zombies only stay down with head shots. A full auto AK is not the best tool for that especially in urban areas where zombies get up close. An accurate pistol where round size isn't that important is far more useful in fending off zombie attacks.

I would like to know why "zombie invasion" is not a poll choice when clearly there were other comical choices like shooting at police.

Sure, if the Zombies are nice enough to come at you one at a time, a pistol is better. But they don't. They come in hordes. A fully automatic weapon is far more useful when a horde is approaching because you can slow down many of them and escape to safer territory.

You would do a bang up job stopping one Zombie for good with your pistol, but I'd rather seek safer territory, perhaps a tree since Zombies can't climb trees for ****, and fire down upon the lot of 'em from above.

Amateurs....

Exactly. I know I'm much more likely to fend off some Zombies than get into a shootout with cops.

Nope. You're still a zombie. Full auto body shots slow down things that actually need their body. Zombies of course don't. And fully automatic weapons are downright terrible for head shots. The actual better choice is not a firearm at all since you run out of ammo at the worst times. A kukuri, machete, double headed axe, or a longsword is better as none require ammunition. Trick question actually.

Well, that is pretty much the assumed strategy. Why bother fighting them when you can get to safety? That said, if we had to use firearms, and our choices were a pistol or an AK, I'd go with the pistol. Plus it's lighter.

They do need their bodies for efficient locomotion.

Although for optimal performance against the undead, your should use a shotgun and replace your left hand with a chainsaw.

If forced between the two, a combo would probably be the best approach. Use the AK to hold them off for a bit, and then use the pistol to take them out for good.

It's really a two-man operation.

Not that important when there are thousands of them coming at you.

Pretty much. Melee weapons are better choices. A suit of armor, chainmail or other bite proof, grab resistant garb with a big *** sword will do the trick.

Dude. Too much Resident Evil 5 going on there.

Then you just got a mob of flaming Zombies you can't get close to melee or accurately shoot in the head. Not the best choice. Plus zombies don't feel pain. A phalanx would work somewhat well as spears could stab the zombies in the head while the formation protects the people inside the formation. And the modern day phalanx anti-missile gun should essentially vaporize zombies with its thousands of rounds per second capacity.

Which is what I'm saying. You need to slow down the ones in front so that they trip up the one's in the back.

Agreed.

Don't diss RE5 and other preparatory games.

I, for one, am quite comforted that our children will be prepared for Zombie invasions and our forthcoming post-apocalyptic nightmare.

To complete a task, you are offered a choice between a Smith&Wesson 9mm automatic and an AK-47. In which cases would you wish to use the latter in order to get the job done quickly and easily?
Presuimg that you were of a mind to do any of those things, the AK would be better.

Arguments -could- be made for the 9mm being better for small game and fun at the shooting range, but I am not a big fan of S&W 9mm.

Well if we're getting all crazy with the tech, a tank would come in quite handy. But who can really afford them in this economy?

Like hunting wabbits Elmer Fudge! Ever shoot a rabbit with a medium to large caliber?

Not a pretty sight.

And kind of pointless if you;re trying to get dinner.

This is what I don't get about the novel World War Z. Why didn't nations just run over Zombies? A 50 ton tank will crush the Zombie's brain and Zombies can't get inside. Countries could really just design a heavy vehicle that's access ladder can be pulled into the driver's seat and make it really slick with no points for grabbing. And then just proceed with operation Carmaggedon.

Priceless. :rofl

The problem with an AK-47, though, is that often the general idea is to render only the target useless. If you're worried at all about hitting innocents, it's not a good choice.

Ever shot one? At 25 yards I can draw a smiley face on the target with mine.

I assumed we were talking about the legal-to-own, semi-auto version, not the class-III version.

IIRC the "full auto" version is selective-fire isn't it? Has a selector lever and the capacity to shoot single shots?

It's not as accurate as an AR or a Remington 700, but it will do out to 300 yards.

Poll choices were a bit corny. Neither 9mm or 7.62 is suitable for small game, and I prefer .40 or .45 in pistols anyway. There should have been one that said, "Because I ****ing want one, capiche?"
