I just can't get myself to get into a collective, foot-stomping, breath-holding, protest-tantrum, just because my political ideology of choice was overwhelming rejected by most of America and kicked to the curb.

I don't think this really has a lot to do with taxes or you would see the democrats and republicans arm-in-arm in this protest. (Democrats get taxed too ya know.)

This is more about a FOXNews led, GOP zealots just taking their piss-and moan whining to a new level.

But ya gotta love a good protest. It shows that democracy is alive and well in America. (Albeit, somewhat childish in nature.)

Democrats are welcome at the protests. Everyone is welcome. It's in your best interest, too, unless you really think it's right to be paying for other people to live in big houses they couldn't afford!

The one in our area is being held in the evening for this very reason!

lol, I always got to wonder why it always seems like most of the protests are held during the day. Responsible people who work always loose out on bitching about things.

This is nothing new, back in the 70's I saw people living in small houses that they could not afford. The FHA235 program was the deal then, and like most govt programs, it was being ripped off by many of the recipients, at taxpayer expense....

I wonder how well attended a weekend protest would be...?

Good luck with the grassroot's thing.

We could use a little more of that, across the board, here in America.

That reminds me. Weedfest, here in Wisconsin, supposed to have a pretty good line-up this summer. That should be a good turn-out, hey?

And 4-20 is just a few days away. ;)

I went to the last tea party in February and lots of people complained about the timing then, too. Some people who worked downtown came during their lunch hours but if you don't work close, you were S.O.L. I think the thinking is that it will make the news more but conservatives know that the only kind of news coverage they get is negative so I don't know why they would factor that into it at all.

I think the democrats still have a fatwa out on me from my anti-Clinton days. I doubt I would find myself safely in their midst.

And the republican's probably wouldn't appreciate my protest sign, "Bush. The gift that just keeps on giving."

It might be in my best interest to just fold laundry instead. :rofl

But thanks for lookin' out for me cuz'!

Most protests are disingenuous anyway. Not because they are protests or anything is bad about protesting, but rather because the protest becomes "smeared" by those who latch on. The same can be said for the anti-war protests that have, for the most part, disappeared now that Obama is President(although nothing has changed). It was never really about the war for alot of people, it was just about hating Bush. Now the tables have turned, and there are alot of people that are protesting because they hate Obama. In the beginning, and at the core, I am sure both protests are sincere and clear in their scope. Its the ones who latch on and attach their personal agendas to it that sully the reputation of the protest. Its the ones who resort to childish name calling, and saying things like Bush=Hitler or Obama=Marx that distract from and destroy the reputation of the protest. But the organizers are still at fault, because they are all but too happy to welcome them in, because they want the press and coverage that large numbers will bring to their cause.

The thing is that most conservatives aren't protesters by nature. For most of the people going out today it will be their first time, ever. DH and I are in our 40's (sob) and we've NEVER been moved to be political like we are now. We didn't like Clinton, for example, but there are always going to be politicians you don't like. The country moves left and right. And those who say we're hypocrites because we haven't protested every. little. thing. we don't like about (presumably) are own party and theirs are the same ones accusing us of being whiners and tantrum-throwers now that we're heading out for the first time. We can't win with them so it's best to ignore them, I think. lol!

I don't know anyone who is protesting because they "hate" Obama.
My husband and I didn't like Clinton, either, but we're just not protesters by nature. What is different now is how far Obama and Pelosi and co. are grabbing power and changing this country. The effects will be felt for years to come and I'm not sure we can recover financially.
For example:
The cumulative deficit from 2010 to 2019 under the President’s proposals would total $9.3 trillion, compared with a cumulative deficit of $4.4 trillion projected under the current-law assumptions embodied in CBO’s baseline. Debt held by the public would rise, from 41 percent of GDP in 2008 to 57 percent in 2009 and then to 82 percent of GDP by 2019 (compared with 56 percent of GDP in that year under baseline assumptions)

I don't know why everyone, short of those who are extremely far-left, isn't out there protesting, writing to their elected officials, trying to stop this.
We should all get together, moderates, GOP'ers, Libertarians, Independents, Dems who are near the center - and toss these far lefties out on their bums!

And, frankly, I think that is what the current Administration is afraid of and why they put out that Dep't. of Homeland Security warning about us. We're peaceful protestors, conservatives with sharpie-pen signs for the most part  and they're demonizing us!

No. Certain people refuse to say anything bad about any democrat ever.

Democrats are still lying about Reagan, even.

The thing is, that here at Debate Politics, we get people from sides we may not agree with, who can and do expound upon their reasons for supporting such protests, in a manner that shows reasoning beyond simple media driven platitudes. From what you have posted here thus far, you seem to be one of those people. You are not the problem I alluded to. The problem I speak of, are those that will take this "opportunity" to present a case for fiscal conservatism, and misuse it as an opportunity to simply bash Obama. Those people are going to show up, with stupid **** written on poster board. And then the people who already have disdain for conservatism, will equate those loons with conservatives, and use their stupid lines and slogans as an argument against conservatism. The left had it with their whacko loons that protested the Iraq war. Even though I support the war, I could appreciate some of the reasoning some people on the left and libertarians felt for opposing the war.
If we are to take each other seriously as Americans, we need to seperate the extremist views and minimize them. However, for sensationalism, our media outlets(be they right or left wing in nature) capitalize on the extremist views of the other side and promote them to their audience as the de facto position of all liberals/conservatives. It spills into these forums as well, as we can see, as people use base generalities to simply decide that the protest of the other side is somehow rooted in the extremist view of things, rather than respecting that the root issues are simply problematic for moderate people of either side, and those people want to be heard as well.

Re: Bush - it's time to move on. Seriously. Or will you wait til the next Admin. to start thinking about what Obama has done?

You kidding me? I'm still stuck in the "Blame everything on Clinton" mode. :rofl

I do find it amusing, however, that the harder righties are passing out info they refused to take themselves some years back.

Re: Gore lost, get over it. vs. McCain lost, get over it.

Re: "It's all Clinton's fault" vs. "Bush - It's time to move on...."

It's almost like the left and right just swapped seats traded playbooks. :rofl

People are mad about the government over spending.

They are mad about the overspending under Bush and under Obama.

They don't want their children stuck with so much debt.

The anti protest nastiness is purely political. There is no logical reason to be in favor of excess government spending that our children will have to pay for.

There is no way around it that everybody's taxes will have to go up eventually to pay for all this. Not just the rich.

Another big point was that people who paid their mortgage every month have to pay for people who bought a house they couldn't afford.

Is buying a million bags of tea to dump considered "wasteful spending"?

Big difference between the citizens choosing to waste their own money on tea bags and the government choosing to waste our money on bull****.

This is true. Of course, it hurts their credibility on fiscal matters when they buy a million tea bags to dump and then don't bother to get the permit to dump them. They tea bagged themselves.

People are mad about the overspending. Parents don't want their children stuck with so much debt. The thing is that democrats have been on board with this for a long time now. The republicans waited until there was a democrat in office before deciding to come together and raise their voice.

Generally, I was glad to see people come together to protest. I like to see people get involved.

Personally, I felt it was disingenuous because the right waited until there was a democrat in office to do it, because their was no focus and because the main theme was to hate on Obama rather than to protest something specifically.

Well now you're being disingenuous as well.

Its not like these protests were cosponsered with Democrats. The left has been largely FAR less vocal concerning the spending under Obama than Bush.

Further, the spending from the TARP out under Obama, if my understanding is correct, is more in and of itself than all the spending on the Iraq War since the beginning of it.

Further, the Iraq War and aftermath will finish in time, likely within a couple years, where as many of the programs Barack Obama is trying to impliment will be suckling at the teet of the American Public for decades upon decades upon decades.

Further, whether YOU disagree with it or not, there is a LEGITIMATE reason that some may view spending on a military matter...something SPECIFICALLY delegated as something the Federal Government was created to do....is differnet than spending money on bailing out Banks and Auto-makers and instituting a number of new social policies.

This is not a 1:1 scenario.

We didn't know until September 2008 how bad things were.

The first tax rallies started in February. The main theme is taxes and debt, not hating Obama. I think everybody is smart enough to know that everybody is to blame and not just Obama.

Well now you're being disingenuous as well.

I disagree

The protests weren't something that the Dems could get behind that's why they weren't co-sponsored, Zyphlin. The left does things differently than the right. I'm not sure why you would think that the Dems could get behind the policies of the last eight years. The Dems are against them.

Further, the spending from the TARP out under Obama, if my understanding is correct, is more in and of itself than all the spending on the Iraq War since the beginning of it.

I don't know what the numbers are and frankly at this point it's just numbers. We're in a hole. A deep hole. As much as it makes me shudder, part of me thinks that Obama may not have used enough money to get the momentum that the economy needs.

Further, the Iraq War and aftermath will finish in time, likely within a couple years, where as many of the programs Barack Obama is trying to impliment will be suckling at the teet of the American Public for decades upon decades upon decades.

The Left sees solutions and successes for the coming decades. We know what didn't work. It's time to try something else.

Zyphlin, you're such a bore when you speak this way. I didn't know that I was going to end up at the last paragraph reading your condenscending tripe otherwise I probably wouldn't have responded.

I do view it differently than you. I do disagree with you. I guess you're gonna have to live with that.
