I don't like to box myself into some group, but I don't think I could be more libertarian if I tried.

Heh. If you still believe that some form of government is necessary to protect your rights, you still have a little more room to go.

I've always thought "Very moderate" was just another term for "I just don't give a damn".

Generally, I see the "Very moderates" as people who don't care about politics.

Which is for the best. Most people are very moderate which leads to peace and civility. If we were all extremists there would be nothing but fighting. There are things to give a damn about other than immigration and abortion and guns.

Not all anarchists are communists. Some are genuine libertarians who just believe that no government is even better than the smallest possible government.

Used to be one, myself.

Just to post my test results ...

Your PERSONAL issues Score is 80%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 90%.

No surprise.

No surprises.

More sophisticated two-axis political quizzes usually place me on the far Left and within a point of 0 in either direction on the Libertarian/Authoritarian axis. The test at Moral Politics, which measures political philosophy instead of issue positions, places me almost exactly on the border between Conservatism and Fascism.

Took that test and it scored me at 0 on Moral Order and -5 on Moral Rules. Firmly in favor of independance, but right inbetween conformity and non-conformity.

I have taken both of the tests mentioned before; as always, the libertarian quiz is one of the worst quizzes I've seen. But anyways:
Your PERSONAL issues Score is 40%.
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 30%.

Moral:

Your scored -4.5 on Moral Order and 8 on Moral Rules.

I always find this bit amusing:
0% are close to you.
0% are more socialist.
0% are more authoritarian.

He framed the whole thing to make it seem like fiscal conservative/social liberal is only logical choice....

Those who are unsure might want to take this test.

My results:
Your PERSONAL issues Score is 40%. (100% is the most liberal.)
Your ECONOMIC issues Score is 60%. (100% is the most conservative.)

...Meaning I am much less of a social liberal than I thought. Also, much less of a fiscal conservative than I thought. But then, the test isn't entirely accurate; I know plenty of extremely liberal people who are against legalized prostitution.

Wow...that sounds just about right. I tend to think I am a little more liberal socially than right in the middle, but still pretty close.

Is there a category that says, "as long as you leave me and mine alone, I don't care what you do" ??

Seriously...for those who want to, go live in your socialist utopia, your anarchist paradise, your 1950's-vintage traditionalist society, I'm fine with that and I wish you well...just leave a piece of territory for people like me who mostly just want to be left alone. I expect there's a lot of us, and I think we'd get on fairly well.

Lawbook for the Land O' Goshin:

1. Thou shalt not frak with anyone that does not want to be frakked with, unless he is already frakking with you first.
2. Thou shalt not frak with thy neighbor's house, yard, automobile, paycheck, wallet, cornfield, barns, spouse, child, or anything else that is thy neighbor's, unless thy neighbor is 'ok with that.'
3. Thou shalt not make any other rules.

(The attorney's bar exam in the Land O' Goshin lasts fifteen minutes, lol. )

Sometimes I think we should split the country up into Libertaria, SocialWefare'tannia, Traditionali'stan, Anarchia, and FrakOff'ia...oh yeah, and Texas. :rofl

Then everybody could be happy...for six months anyway, until SocialWelfaretannia decided to "liberate" Libertaria because there weren't enough people working and paying-in back home, Traditionalistan invaded Anarchia to keep their kids from sneaking across the border to the strip joints, and Texas got POed and sent Chuck Norris to sort it all out.

According to the definitions provided I would be along the lines of a "social moderate/conservative." On "fiscal," "other," I do not determine my position by how much the state intervenes in the economy, but by whose interests are served and whether it is a help to mine. State intervention can be quite good when there's a lot of it in some situations, little in others; also depends where the state intervenes.

In other words, by your definition, you like regulations that can allow you to prey upon the fruits of other people's labor but oppose those that do the reverse: If the intervention allows you to legally steal other people's property, it is "good." If it allows others to steal your property, then it is "bad."

You would fit in with corrupt politicians everywhere. Use regulations for personal gain regardless of the consequences and regardless of how much it destroys our economy.

I believe in regulations against the violation of other people's natural rights. In other words, you don't do bodily harm to other people or mess with their property or their natural rights. Regulations to favor certain people or groups above others are IMMORAL and UNJUST.

I fit into the fiscal conservative/social moderate categories, although your definition of social moderate is really idiotic. Wishy washy? How is supporting some causes from each side wishy washy?

Being a moderate does not neccessarily label you as "wishy-washy." But many people have varying degrees of "wishy-washy" in them. Since "wishy-washy" is all over the map, the average would be a lot closer to moderate than either extreme.

Fiscal and social conservative.

Survival of the fittest -- No welfare, low taxes, low government intervention, full laissez-faire capitalism, state only responsible for defence, justice, and, law and order.

I prefer the more traditional family values lifestyle. A mum, a dad, few kids, a nice house with a backyard, etc. Dad works, while mum stays at home and looks after the kids.

I hope you understand "social conservative." A social conservative favors laws that FORCE people to adopt certain social values. You could be a strong social liberal and still adopt your own values for your family.

Just two synonyms for "wishy-washy.".

Libertarian /= Anarchist

Maybe a few. But the vast majority of libertarians favor enough government for:

National defense.
Protecting people's natural rights.
Keeping law and order.

But NOT messing with the economy, providing social-welfare programs, meddling with other nations, grandiose and needless projects, going miles into debt, etc. And of course, NOT collecting more than a minimal amount of tax to cover the first three things I mentioned.

Give me a spot in Libertaria and enough machine guns to protect me from any invading SocialWelfare'tannians.

Now that I think about it, the one time you and I ever got into a row over something, it was some social issue. I think maybe it had to do with religion or something...:2wave:

My mistake; I did not clarify what I meant by in "my interests." I did not mean merely petty selfish aims for myself, but the interest of my conditions and class. E.g. it would be very good for me and others for free college, but it is the opposite interest of the bankers and college boards.

Doubt it.

I'll leave you to your libertarian moralizing and seeming pacifism.

I've taken these political quizzes many times and always fall very close to the center of the box... just over in the 'Libertarian Right' side.
