THAT is not necessarily true. You dont need to have any degree of edusation at all to be able to do that. What you DO need is true open-mindedness, which doesn't need to be taught.
Education can be defined in many ways. I'm not talking about degrees of education. I'm talking about a more general and much broader definition.
If someone is not open minded, they have not learned enough or do not know enough about the world to entertain thoughts. They cling only to what they have been told is right.
If someone is open minded, it is because of something. Something has caused this person to be open minded. We are not open minded by nature. As humans we learn about the world first and then make judgments about it and thus become open minded after seeing things. We cannot make these judgments just out of the blue, that is not possible.
Knowledge isnt the key; open-mindedness is, and there's no necessary relationship between the two.
There is a link between the two. What I am trying to tell you is that open mindedness can be considered a "mark of education." However, I feel it is important to define education first, but it has many different definitions.
As you said, "What you DO need is true open-mindedness, which doesn't need to be taught." You are right about the fact that open mindedness doesn't need to be taught, but it must be learned. There is no other way to be open minded than to learn about things. No one is born with the idea "hey I was just born, I must be open minded," we learn in order to become open minded. In fact we learn about being open minded just to become open minded. So it all comes back to learning.
Going back to what I said earlier, I see the word educated in this situation as broad as "experienced or knowledgeable." You think educated can only mean "being taught by someone," but what I am saying is that educated can mean "a person learning about things themselves, without help from others." Every human must learn in order to progress.
Now, I know what you might be thinking, you might be thinking "but everyone must learn things about the world after birth, is that not open mindedness?" Yes, that is right in a sense, because I think the first thing we learn in our entire lives is "how to be open minded." Thus, it all starts with "education."
Yes, I am
Yes, I said you were right about commenting on my sig. And your comment influenced me to change it. My sig was actually a joke, but you made me realize that people still take it seriously. So I changed it.
