Should the UAE be banned from hosting international sporting events?

Next, the UAE is governed by Sharia Law; therefore, unless their women want to play tennis is a full length gown and a burkha --- IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN.

Someone needs to do better research, because the UAE is governed by there constitution, not Sharia Law.

Although I wouldn't expect that from you.

I think they should be perfectly free to allow what players they wish to compete on their soil. And, I think that private sporting organizations should feel free to refuse to hold their events on their soil.

As for them not allowing women to participate in sports, that is their prerogative and while I think private groups have the right to not play on their soil because of that, I don't think they should take it into consideration. All that should be taken into consideration is whether or not they all ALL participants in a sport, from ALL countries to play on their soil. What they allow for their own athletes is irrelevant, IMO

There is no need to be insulting.

Arab culture and many states in the UAE still operate under the guise of Sharia law.

This is why their women dress up like nuns. If they had a real, viable, constitution women would be free to wear what they wish.

Right, this from the guy that calls everyone who doesn't like Israel an anti-Semite.

Just because you disagree with it does not make it not real.

Don't encourage him. ;)

My point is that these people are stuck in another century and they are not ever going to catch up to the rest of the planet until they boot Islam out of their government.

:rofl

Do you not know anything about the UAE, yet alone the lifestyle in Dubai? Take a look at pictures of Deira City Center or some of the beaches on Dubai. All throughout the cities you will find women wearing the full bhurka (black garment), some who only wear the hijab (headdress), and some who wear whatever they feel. There's a reason why the only supposed "7-star" hotel in the world is in Dubai, and even more reasons why the city attracts so many, many tourists.

Dubai looks awesome. I would love to visit some time. People drive Lamborghinis and Ferraris around there as much as people drive Hondas over here.

What say you?

I think you have been watching too much O'reilly.
whenever I watch the show (which is once in a while) he would always say: "what say you?"

Bill had been pissing me off lately so I stopped watching...he's way to hooked up on his religious beliefs (along with many republicans)

Have you ever tried to get an Arab to apologize for anything? That alone is going to take an act of god.

If I was an Arab with any knowledge of what happened over the last century between the West and my people I think I'd rather die than apologise to one of them.

That has nothing to do with my cab being 20 minutes late or my dry cleaning not being up to standard.

Ahh well they are of course indicative of the entire race of Arabs.

If we paid much attention to such talk then I'd believe that Americans were all obese and couldn't tell where Europe or Russia was on a map of the world.

Get a sense of humor, man. It was just an off color joke.

On a more serious note, Arabs have not exactly been innocent in their dealings with the West, either.

Have you ever considered it just wasn't funny? Exactly how their is humour value in simply stating Arabs don't apologise is hard to.

How do you know I find the stereotypical qualities of American funny?

In the last century they've had the worst of it.

I considered it. Then I realized it is funny to those who aren't sallow and looking for an excuse to be offended.

How do you know I find the stereotypical qualities of American funny?

I don't but I wouldn't care if you did. There are a lot of fat Americans that are ignorant. Just like sheep ****ing has been a favored Scottish past time. Just like the french surrender rather than fight. Just like Germans have no sense of humor, etc, etc, etc.

In the last century they've had the worst of it.

No, not at all. If Arabs grew a spine and fought modern wars like civilized cultures rather than lemming bombing civilian targets, I might find it in me to have some sympathy.

Where is the humour? Where is the joke? This reminds me of Orius brilliant joke of randomly calling me a racist. Care to explain how exactly I'm looking for an excuse to be offended? I didn't even know it was a joke, it was far from obvious and I simply replied with my views about Arabs, whose ancient culture, institutions and beliefs are constantly underattack by people who call themselves Conservatives and hyence should know better.

I'm not the actual one who got nasty and personal for no reason.

It is the Welsh who are sheep shaggers, it looks like you might be right about Americans being ignorant.

Only Americans, who interestingly have a tendency to turn up late to the fight, consider the French to like to surrender rather than fight. It has little to do with any actual truth.

You mean like the allies who never bombed civilians?

And exactly how a few suicide bombers are representative of Arabs as whole I don't know or how you missed the several modern wars they did fight.

Thank you for completely failing to understand my point.

Next, the UAE is governed by Sharia Law; therefore, unless their women want to play tennis is a full length gown and a burkha --- IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN.

The WTA can prevent any of its events from being in the UAE that is what I was getting at.

Sorry you missed it.

Your ignorance never ceases to amaze me. The Qur'an doesn't have a SINGLE passage within it mentioning the burqa. Not a single one. Women in Islam are not required to wear a Burqa. And women who are not Muslim aren't required either. Meaning the UAE would not have a single problem with letting women who are not Muslim or women who are Muslim play tennis if they so chose to. Tennis is not a religious activity. Sharia law is interpreted within a religious context.

Spare me your liberal double talk.

Examine the way women in the UAE dress. Look at how the Saudi's make their women dress?

Ever hear of a Burquini?

Sharia Law is an outdated concept that has no place in modern civilization.

You're the one who's saying baseless things.

Have you ever been to the UAE? Deira City Centre in Dubai?

I think I've already told you before, the UAE has not implemented Sharia Law.

At least do some research before saying UNTRUE things.

You mean the double talk based on fact and logic? Well alright. You're still completely wrong. :2wave:

Examine the way women in the UAE dress.

Which proves what? That the majority of Muslim women in a Muslim country follow the Muslim religion? Well alright then. Aren't you a real Captain Obvious.

Look at how the Saudi's make their women dress?

UAE =/= Saudi Arabia. Try again.

Ever hear of a Burquini?

Couldn't care less. Whenever you have an actual argument please come back and talk

Sharia Law is an outdated concept that has no place in modern civilization.

:rofl - Vader. Listen. You tried. You failed. Your poll was a joke. One devoid of any kind of logic or fact. Just your opinion. And even that was weak.

No.

Individual nations must decide on their own to send teams to any particular forum, or not.

Indivdual team members must decide if they're willing to go to those forums their nations are sponsoring them to go to.

People went to the China Olympics. Can't find many nations more destructive of human rights than that. Must not be important, then.

Wow. Second time you prove you can not comprehend what is written. The WTA can make sure their events aren't hosted by the UAE. But if the UAE decides to host it's own international event called 'Women's Tenis in the UAE' the WTA can only ban it's members from going. It can not ban the UAE from hosting it.

Oh, thanks for clearing that one up. I was wondering if the Los Angeles MTA had a global counterpart....

In my opinion they should on the grounds that they refused to play ball and decided to use a sporting event to make a political statement. If a country agrees to host an event then they have to play by the rules of the committee of that particular sport. Sporting events really shouldn't be places for political statements. Sports IMO seems to be the last thing that seems to remain somewhat apolitical.

Yeah, first time that's happened...

If a country agrees to host an event then they have to play by the rules of the committee of that particular sport.

More to the point....the committee setting up the event has to make sure the venue is suitable to the needs of the sport and the players.

The irrational arab hatred for Isrealis is not a well kept secret. Therefore no one in their right mind should hold sporting events in irrational arab countries if those events might include the dreaded Jew, or worse, a dreaded Jewess that might inflame the passions of the muslim male.

Sarcasm aside, ultimately the promoters of the sport should have declined to hold the event if the host nation was acting weird and hatefully irrational. It's not safe for the athletes.

Sporting events really shouldn't be places for political statements. Sports IMO seems to be the last thing that seems to remain somewhat apolitical.

That is the ideal. But everything is a vehicle for nationalism these days.

Nah. Allow it to host

Edit: ****! I pressed the wrong button. Okay people, my vote is for No

....

Why am I not surprised you are not in the group that wants to punish blatent racism in a muslim country?
