Yes. The Empire State Building is one of the greatest works of architecture in the country.

Well, it's definitely one of the better buildings of the 20th century, and there is, unlike that frightening one in North Korea, more elegance and nobility to appreciate the closer you get to it. Sure, one of its primary functions is to convey a sense of authority, but it does so without looking like the personal home of Sauron. You could almost say it's New York's own Pitti Palace.

Personally, I'm just super happy that whatever abominable architectural era we just went through has good and thoroughly ended. Plain standing rectangles....yay. "The World Trace Center -- so beautiful they built it twice!"

For a quick and really fun synopsis of Western architecture in the 20th century, read From Bauhaus to Our House by Tom Wolfe.

No, it's a giant pile of dog sh*t.

Are you channeling Maximus now or is that really your opinion?

I'm just providing a facetious answer which directly contradicts his asinine presumptions about what the typical American would say. His threads do not warrant serious consideration or answers. Besides, we all know the Sears Tower is way cooler...

I love the US Bank Tower here in Los Angeles.

I think this is pretty cool

I get it now. Of course I do. The point of this thread and that other one about the North Korean Monstrosity was to point out American arrogance and hate for everything socialist, non-American etc. What a horrible failure. Thankfully there are those of us who are consistent. Maximus should have tried a building like this one though :

St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow :

Alright so REGARDLESS of the fact that this building is in a country that strongly opposes American policies, ways of life etc. This building is one of the greatest architectural and technical achievements of ANY century. As far as the Empire State building goes. For the most part it's a pretty nondescript building by today's standards. The only thing that sets it apart is some of it's tenants and history as one of the tallest built at the start of the century.

A MUCH better looking building in America is :

That ridiculous excuse for concrete in North Korea is ugly. Not cool. So uncool in fact that it's not even finished. When not even the people building it think it's worth finishing. You have an issue.

It looks like a giant penis.......KNow wonder you like it:mrgreen:

Actually I think it looks like a big crown. I just love how it's lit up at night. It's the view from my window, actually.

The Chicago Spire (if they ever finish it) will end up being one of the coolest buildings of all time:

.....for some reason that building just feels like a representation of what critics of Chicago call 'Screwed Up Politics'. I'd get dizzy just walking up the stairs.

I always thought the Masonic Temple in Alexandria was really cool.

You've got to be kidding me. :doh

Now, MZ takes one of the great pieces of Art Deco architecture, not to mention of the most famous and renowned buildings in the world, and will claim that because yes, people like it, it's only because it's an American building.

What a joke.

The empire state building was an architectural wonder at the time it was built, but now, well, it's a piece of history. And it's not so creatively 'cool' either.

There are better ones out there

If you werent so narrow minded and anti-non-uniform way of thinking you would see that the thread asks a very simple question.. Apparently its too complicated for you.

I dont ask about the sears towers, but the empire state building, how difficult is that for you to understand? Perhaps over complicated for you to process?

Or maybe they're just not going to let themselves be locked in by your little limitations, especially when your motives are so transparent and they're able to work outside the box.

Got it, DaVinci?

What a joke.

And you can all assume a bunch of ridiculous thing into eternity.. I am just asking the question, is that so hard to understand.. Cant you simply see the question "is this building cool/nice" and just answer it without mixing in a bunch of irrelevant stuff.

These two threads have turned out to prove something completely different actually. You Americans have to over complicate everything. You cant even understand a simple question. How ridiculous its to see all you people just refusing to get out of a uniform way of thinking and just drowning out the obvious facts that you are all biased and have a real difficult time admitting anything that goes beyond your nationalistic uniform indoctrinated way of thinking about things.

Thats what these threads have proved, not that you are biased against a North Korean building which looks greater than its American counterpart.

When you see the glass covered North Korean building you all talk about shabby concrete which is behind, but when you see a concrete American building you talk of its like its the 7th wonder of the world.

Wow, these threads really are amazing.

Got it, DaVinci?

You have no idea about my motives, in your blind ignorance you just assume my motives..

Both threads have a simple question, and Americans on this forum are unable to answer them..
