Tucker,

Thanks for the crash course in comics ;)

But seriously, its cool how you break it down, showing the different styles of each comic company...I always thought they were the same...

Totally different. For the most part, Marvel kicks DC's ass.

Marvel changed a bit in the 70's and 80's to create very cool "anti-hero" characters like the afformentioned Punisher, Wolverine, Ghost Rider etc.

Every time Marvel put out something cool, DC would scramble to try and match it (Characters like Lobo, etc) but they never pulled it off that well, IMO.

In the 80's Batman started to kick ass again and stopped being so campy thanks to the likes of Frank Miller and Alan Moore. The Joker was made into a pure psychopath in The Killing Joke, and he was so awesome that it is primarily the foundation on which Ledger's version was built.

In DC's Defense, the CCA nearly killed Batman. The old-school Batman from the 40's and 50's was cool as hell. Then after the CCA he became a bit of a pansy only to be revived in the 80's as a darker, more menacing hero, almost an anti-hero akin to the Punisher.

I would say that Batman was the biggest success of DC in altering a character to make him more appealing than the campy "bing zowie powie" crap that caused the old TV show. The new movies reflect that alteration quite well.

The 80's and 90's also brought a new age to comic books where some really cool stuff came out. Dark Horse comics (stuff like Sin City and Hellboy), Quality Comics (V for Vendetta) and Image Comics (Spawn) as well some other, lesser known, comic companies put out some awesome titles.

That's about it for me regarding the history of comics. It was about the mid-nineties when I really stopped collecting new titles and started focussing on expanding my current collections.

P.S. That collection includes a lot of great stuff, like a #1 Amazing Spider-man from 1963 and an Amazing Fantasy #15 (first apearance of Spidey) from 62. A #3 Fantastic Four Pretty much all of the first appearances of most of the major Marvel characters like the Punisher (Amazing Spiderman #129) and the Wolverine (Incredible Hulk #180).

Unfortunately, many of these are in no better than fair condition.

Seriously though, who the **** fights with a shield? CAPTAIN AMERICA DOES! THAT'S WHO!

The best superhero, hands down, is Doctor Strange. No contest.

Batman owns because he doesn't have super powers. He just kicks ass. And the Batman movies are so much cooler than Superman and Spiderman combined.

But the most awesome superhero is Raven..because she's such a bitch.

Is she supposed to look scared? because she looks like she's getting into position...but can't quite find what she's supposed to be 'sucking'.

This is the true test of a debater...well not really, but I think you get the idea.

So who is 'better' at their role as a hero/superhero ?

Batman? Superman?

What makes Batman better is his reliance on his own intellect and resourcefulness to fight the demons of his past.

Iron Man.

Drunk millionaire playboy, nuf' said.

Go Marvel!

Wow. It makes you wonder, looking back at all of the history of art, how many asses have ever been drawn with that much detail. That one has got to be in the short list.

Anyway, Batman is clearly the superior of the two. Batman is a character(when employed correctly), Superman is like something made up by a 6-year-old.

Batman is a far better hero.

How much courage does it take to face down a gun when the bullets bounce off? How much bravery does it take to face certain death when you can't die?

Batman has been stabbed, shot, and even had his back broken (by Bane) and he still maintains his strict code and mission against Gotham's criminals. It doesn't seem to take much effort or discipline to be Superman.

...oh, was this not a serious poll?

Of course not, but it can make an interesting debate...but you folks don't seem to bother to  ...I guess people aren't as passionate as they were when they were kids about superheros :doh

Some aren't. Some are. I love it still. In fact, I grew up to be what I was most addicted to in comics. And later this year, I get to see it on the silver screen. "G.I. Joe"

I think I was deprived as a kid.

I was never interested/introduced to comics

Well, I definately owe some of my personality to reading stories of good vs. evil and such. My favorites, which stood extremely far from the rest, was Batman and G.I. Joe. I also got into the The 'Nam. Later on I realized that my "super heroes" were always characters that could be real and relied upon human strength and intellect to win the day. I was never a Superman, Spiderman, Hulk, etc. kind of kid.

Faster than a deadly inhale, more powerful than stink on crap, able to penetrate mountains in a single <pffffttttt>. Look. Up in the sky. Its a toxic cloud. Its a global warming phenomenon. It's Fartman.

That's me.

Is that the Marvel comics The 'Nam? I read it too and I still have an issue somewhere in storage. I was a big Michael Golden fan and tended to gravitate to anything he illustrated.

I'm not a big comic book follower, but I always liked the Hulk character. The thought of overwhelming masculine power being the solution appeals to me for some reason. :2razz:

In this particular instance Batman is definitely my choice. Superman just isn't a challenge. Batman doesn't really have super powers at all, and yet he still manages to kick ass. Plus he has a far darker edge than Superman will ever have.

I never really collected comics like crazy, but a couple of my favorite comics to read were Spawn and The Maxx.

Spawn was kickass... untill it got so popular that they started throwing in ****ty "For the masses" stories.

I have some of the original more... graphic... spawn comics.
