What's The Highest Elected Office You'd Want To Hold?

President

Governor

Senator

Congressman

Mayor

Councilman

None

Other

And then tell us why.

I'd like to be a Senator. Powerful. Semi-celeb status but some anonymity is possible. Great perks. Not singularly responsible for any huge or life and death issues. Most people don't know if you are doing a good job or not. So, if you study the bills and vote with your constituent's wishes enough of the time and vote your conscience when it is best for the nation the rest of the time, you can have a good chance to be re-elected.

I'd rather have a position where I am appointed. I don't care for running mudslinging ads and misconstruing my opponents record/statements to try and win elections, and thus I would lose any elected office I ran for. I'd take the NSA job, or Sec Def. So I guess I wouldn't take an "elected" office, as the thread asks, but I would be willing to work in a position of high authority in our government.

President or Governor would be a great gig. You can snap your fingers and have your minions doing anything you tell them to do, and you're unquestionably the most powerful person in your country or state.

I think being a Senator or Representative would suck...spending grueling hours pouring over mindnumbingly boring legalese, constant political attacks from your opponents, having to do non-stop fundraisers, having the majority of Americans hate you and your Congress (no matter how well you do your job), and being only one member of a huge legislative body.

I agree with WI Crippler...an appointed position would be cool too: I'd like to be Secretary of State, Secretary of Commerce, Head Trade Representative, or an ambassador to a cool country.

This is about as involved in politics as I'd ever want to be. It's fun discussing and debating, but the actual practice just plain sucks. It's all.....politics

State legislator would be cool. That'd be all I want. Maybe a congressman at the highest, but probably not.

But truth be told, it'd be too annoying dealing with dumbasses all day (the other elected officials) for me to want any of it.

None. Far too much stress and risk, nowhere near enough reward. Much better to be low profile and handle things from the back.

Are you describing dog-style politics?

I voted for "mayor".
I'd like to get into municipal politics at some point, once my kids are settled down and I've got some time.
I'd like to run for city council at some point.

I wouldn't like to be involved in state or federal government, though.

Governor would be my choice because you can focus on the ills of your own state which IMO is much easier to get things done in as opposed to the national stage.

I would love to be "President" but I'm sure I wouldn't be satisfied with that, as I would somehow use my power to manipulate the world to letting me be in charge of the "New World Order". Then you would see some serious "tough love" goin' on in the world...especially that Middle East.

the executive branch holds no appeal for me and I don't have the energy and charisma it would require.

I'd represent though for a little while, wouldn't want more than one term.

Exalted Ruler of the Entire Universe.

Seriously, President. If I'm going to be in position to make a difference, I want to be in position to make a lot of difference.

I've got more important things to do than to occupy an office with no real power that demands all of my time.

Sheriff. I just like the look of the Sheriff badge.

Mayor or Governor would be cool, especially if there's a big domestic spender in federal office to provide great matching funds for cool projects like rail or parks and whatnot.

Supreme Court Justice would cool too, but that's not elected office and you hold it for life (which makes it better all the same).

Dictator would be a great office to hold. Just say the word and millions hang in the balance.

Either community organizer or President.

I voted for mayor but if that would work out for me, I'd probably try the next step up. I could do no worse than our current mayor right now, who has his head stuck up his ass so far it's back on top of his neck.

I don't know. If there is one thing I am sure of, its that I could always do a worse job than somebody else.

Other: Benevolent dictator. It'd be a Soviet-era type ballot with one candidate so I'd still be "elected".
