In the wake of 911, the US overreacted and instituted the Department of Homeland Security. It's been a long time since this department has served its original purpose.

The entire Department of Homeland Security should be abolished. Sound radical? It's not. It is only 18 years old. We need to go back to the drawing board.

It never should have been created. It was one of the many stupid things we did in response to 9/11

Before that goes the TSB needs to be seriously removed...

The OPer probably is furious there have been no foreign terrorist attacks and not enough domestic terrorist mass killings.

There are many government agencies that should go, but yes, DHS is certainly one of them.

The DHS has prevented more domestic and foreign terrorist attacks than anyone can imagine. They do not do press releases to avoid copycats.

FFS, “no.”

The right answer is the same answer for law enforcement and national security in general, it comes down to reform and training. This whole cancel culture, “defund the police,” “abolish DHS” and everything else is bumper sticker thinking that I usually accuse the right of.

Even though the conditions were terrible for how this nation was introduced to the DHS we do have a reason to consider continuing things even if it means going after other legislation that gives the department way too much latitude in targeting people to political whim.

It’s double top secret.. just pay the bills and don’t ask questions... did I get it right?

You are nobody, irrelevant, to stopping terrorism.

It makes sense that the criminals and terrorists want to defund the police and get rid of DHS.

Did they charge any of the people who attempted to commit these terrorist acts or just let them go?

Our company was only directly involved in one situation in terms of evidence and can not give details. 4 people were convicted of conspiracy to commit a terrorist attack hoping to use chemicals from our company to attack a subway. I know of another attempt that failed (against an airliner - bomb failed) but don't know anything about charges or conviction, other than certain there was. It would shock people to know how many people try to buy combinations of chemicals basically used to make bombs with.

It's like from one of the Men In Black movies. They only way people can get on with their little lives is by not really knowing what is going on.

DHS is 240,000 strong. The FBI is only 35,000. The entire US Marine Corps is only 186,000.

People have no clue what a challenge it is to prevent any and all lone wolf and organized domestic and foreign terrorist attack plans and tries - or how many there are that are prevented.

The reason DHS will be getting involved is they are gaining info suggestions something REALLY bad is in the works. People better hope they figure out what it is and stops it.

240,000 people and twenty years for charging two people?

There's probably a number for that and a question whether we can 'imagine'.

Go get it please.

I do love the, "Yeah, DHS does do a lot, but we just can't tell you what," part.

Would that not be a secret police, by definition?

So did you bring it up with Obama and the dim controlled congress back in the day?(LOL)

I don't know about him, but a whole lot of people have been saying this for a long time, many were wary when the DHS was first suggested.

I don't doubt many progressive-fascist Democrats want mass murder terrorist attacks in the USA.

Obama was the first president to seek and obtain the authority to have anyone extra judicially assassinated anywhere in the world including Americans.

No, but they need a lot more oversight. Sending in them like paramilitary against civilians is a severe overreaction, for example.
