Is it though? There is no LEGAL reason for any presidential candidate to release their taxes for public consumption.

There is no legal reason why a President can't take a dump on the lawn either. It is tragic how all sense of morality, traditional presidential conduct, and constitutional normalcy went right out the window the moment Trump came on the scene and began to insist that all things with him be defined as either legal or illegal only.

Hasn't every previous presidential candidate posted their tax returns voluntarily?

No. Nixon did and other have followed suit but it IS NOT a Constitutional requirement and making it one without actually amending that document is, in itself, unconstitutional.

If he wants to hide something it might not necessarily be illegal. Maybe it just wouldn't align with the image he portrays to the public, or something. I don't know. I don't see why he cares so much that he wouldn't just show the public. Like I said, I would do it just to gain trust.

IMO, the IRS would have handled it already if Trump had done anything illegal when it comes to his taxes. They have full power to see all his financial records if something doesn't look like it is on the up and up. Keep in mind, we have not heard any scandal coming out of the IRS... we would know if Trump cheated on his taxes, etc. by now.

I don't think there's a lot to see here except the illusion of deceit and corruption coming from his political foes; the DNC and other anti-Trump politicos.

It's absolutely relevant.
The President gets to change and set taxes and sign laws, Helix although is a Mod on here and unless I'm much mistaken that doesn't allow Him (or Her, sorry erm Helix doesn't really convey much info unless you are in fact just a shape) to set US taxes.

The idea is that a President is transparent and as the head of State should at least show that he hasn't screwed the state by not paying taxes or using huge loopholes to benefit himself.

I'd be happy to show my taxes but as a UK citizen we have a system called PAYE and as with every other employed person in the UK taxes are automatic and I've never had to deal with it so it just gets paid without me doing anything.
President doesn't "get to change tax laws". That's done by Congress; specifically all revenue rising bills must originate in the House of Representative, per US Constitution.

Everyone knows the President's tax returns - now ordered released by the Supreme Court - will be leaked and become public information. Democrats of course are cheering this defeat of Trump and capitalism. No business person dare run for president again - and probably any other political office - the greatest victory for socialists and fascists in US history. However, Democrats claim there is no harm. Let's find out if they really believe that.

If I was running for office, of course.

I don't understand why you are so upset about this. No one is forcing him to release his tax returns to the public. He is being held to the same standard as anyone else. Actually, if I were subpoena'd I likely wouldn't be able to appeal all the way to SCOTUS, so he's being treated better than anyone else. But if a grand jury subpoena'd my tax returns, they would get them. Period, end of discussion. We don't make the president a king or a dictator just because you say so.

This question is about the most pathetic strawman argument I've seen on here.

So do all members of Congress. So do all members of any legislature, city council, county government, mayors, governors and the head of any local, county, state and federal agency. So does everyone who contributed to any politician, and any lobbyist. So does anyone on the MSM, with the press and in control of any Internet company. All affect and influence taxes and tax rates and all have a personal financial interest in doing so.

Because there's a huge risk of financial impropriety, especially when you're talking about a shyster like Chancellor Squirrelhead.

That's the best nickname yet.

You should start a thread for Trump nicknames, The Duke of Dunce, Sir Pumpkinhead, Citrus Face, Mr Sweet Potato Pie, Tweety Bird, Oompa Loompa, This ****ing Guy, etc.

What's tragic is how you are unable to refute what I actually wrote. We don't legislate your brand of morality in this country. Thankfully.

The constitution protects the individual rights. DJT is not exempt.

Really? You believe he lets his two moron sons run his business interests?

But there are aren't they, nothing illegal of course as Trump had to give up his business interest when he became president....Of course probably better then Joe Biden's moron sons and their shady dealing in Ukraine and China.

Exactly everyone knows the Democratic government of NY will leak the tax returns. Play naive if you want and deny reality if that suits you. Everyone knows better.

This doesn't seem to be a very rational question. If I was being investigated I would turn over my tax returns- I have nothing to hide. If I ran for political office I would make my returns public. But does my private citizen privacy equal the privacy of someone wanting the highest position in the USofA (and quite likely, for a few decades at least, the world)???

No, but sometimes some have to pout in a rather unreasonable way when someone running for and winning that high office refuses to disclose possible financial issues. This isn't simple tax returns, there are serious concerns over pay-offs and false statements to financial institutions- potential felonies. No one is above the law.

The ruling is fair and the Supreme Court voted over 'partisan' lines. Tough for some to swallow but take little bites and chew well, soon you will swallow it all... :peace

My point is as the head of state I think making sure they've paid tax and hasn't screwed the system is a bare minimum we should expect.
If Trump has no issues why is he so adamant we can't see his tax info?

The Supreme Court addressed this- they note many Presidents have voluntarily released their records and didn't suffer for it. Why not make the President's tax records public??? :peace

Collect 'em all! Lol

IMO, the IRS would have handled it already if Trump had done anything lawfully illegal when it comes to his taxes. They have full power to see all his financial records if something doesn't look like it is on the up and up. Keep in mind, we have not heard any scandal coming out of the IRS... we would know if Trump cheated on his taxes, etc. by now.

It is to endanger anyone who financially involves with Trump and Republicans. Basically, it will be a target list with information people could not obtain any other way - not only who, but their addresses. DOXing otherwise absolutely strictly outlawed of anyone of any financial involvement with any person, organization and corporation Trump has involved with or does business with.

The kind that he's probably refusing transparency to hide.

Do you have an example, or are you just speculating because you don't like Trump?

Are you trying to claim the media have as much political power as the President?
The President can Veto laws, I'd like to see some random news reporter try that and see how far they'd get.

Trump claimed he is the most transparent President in history so let's see him actually follow through with that claim.

Most presidents have been career politicians.

Why just the president?

You are very correct, business folks will steer clear, I imagine this is at least one of he reasons for pursuing Trump. Men like him, super wealthy, don't need the political good ole boys club and they tend to be independant thinkers and not work within the establishment. I think LT. Col Vindman said trump didn't follow established policy. Hell you dumbass he is the President he sets policy.

Pelosi claims she is the most powerful person in the United States. John Roberts claims that he is.

The public is not going to see Trump's tax returns before the election, and probably not after the election.
Access Denied
Keep up...

It matters very little whether the public gets any information about his tax records or not before the Nov election. It simply does not matter. Trump knows with 100% certainly that he can no longer hide behind the Resolute desk, safely immune from criminal prosecution.
