You left out the media. They are the pipeline, but unlike a pipe the words that go in are not the words that come out. The media acts as an interpreters so we don’t have to try to figure out complicated issues.

The interpreters have gone rogue. Even the most strident supporters of misinformation on boards such as this got their misinformation from the press in the first place.

As Confucius says: “A concrete mind of poorly mixed concrete is still mixed up and set forever.”

Ever since we became independent, America has contained an internal contradiction between the ideals of what we'd now call classical liberalism (property rights freedom of association, etc.) and egalitarianism. In the 1960's, the former almost totally collapsed. We're living in the aftermath of that collapse.

the two tribe party system. it is predictably dumb.

The divide occurred when Bush won in 2000, the Republicans saw how close they were to being shut out and became desperate.

Fools though giving more money to rich thieves by all the spiritual authorities leaving fiscal responsibility for lending bubbles like thee one forming now.

Revenue was not keeping up with the deficit before the crisis started.

Give it back to the Democrats all the way, we don't need Trump for anything.

That sounds far more like our current breed of progressive politician than anything else.

The biggest divider of Americans is the internet and social media. For one, it breeds extremism. Who thought the idea of putting every nutjob in the country in touch with every other nutjob was a good one? Secondly, it disincentivizes polite discourse in favor of angry anonymous screeds and accusations.

The 24 hour news cycle is also a big contributing factor. Journalism is a dying profession and partisan and clickbait reporting with the goal of drawing in as many eyeballs as possible has largely replaced objecting reporting of the facts.

Can we have a national dialogue if people get fired for talking honestly?

We Can't Have 'National Dialogues' If People Get Fired For Talking

We have always been divided in opinion and vision for America. Technology has made the division louder and reactions quicker.

Who would have thunk celebrating independence day would ever become controversial.

right wing media of all types.

The white supremacists' attempted coup against American culture divides the country the most.

I'll have some Freedom Fries with that. Maybe a diet coke as well.

Why did the rich get richer under Obama?

Obama admits 95% of income gains gone to top 1%

Yeppers! Democrats have the magic elixir.

The media, social media, education and its industrial complex focused on what is appropriate or not.

Ideas are what shape a society and ideas are what is dividing America at the moment. For decades now, the philosophical pillar of American society has been collectivism and altruism. On top of this we have Statism and it is thus no surprise that it has now culiminated with race riots and cancel culture.

Things look very bad and I do not see it changing any time soon.

Rush Limbaugh.

Rush was broke and he couldn't pay his mortgage. His had been fired from his radio talk show.

He watched wrestling on TV. Wrestling was hugely popular at that time.

Rush thought, how could he combine talk radio and wrestling?

He would make a political talk show, he'd make villains out of one side and heroes out of the other.

How so? It is an accurate description of Trump.

I haven't seen anything of the sort being pushed by Trump.

Yet we have a democrat like Symone Sanders, stating that the democratic party did not need whites leading it.

So if you can find something like that being pushed by Trump. Then it's something I'd like to see.

No, I don't have delusions about my Party of Candidates. I don't think that they're all good and no bad, or that the opposition is all bad and no good, but Democrats have the proven track record of reducing deficits and handing over growing economies.

How many black judges has Trump put on the courts in his 3.5 yrs in office? That's out of 200 appointments.
